Five years ago, a 13-year-old Brazilian musician bought a computer and his first music production software. He promised himself he would become a household name in the UK, and five years later he is beginning to realise his ambitions.
Aggro started life in the studio, creating beats for MCs, singers and songwriters. After working with a host of UK talent, Aggro, from Balham, South London, became inspired by the lyrics and flow of the artists he was working with and decided to pick up the mic himself.
His debut single was entitled "Free Yard", a tongue in cheek track about exploiting the empty house your parents leave behind whilst on holiday. The video for "Free Yard" shot straight to 1 on Channel U and remained in the top 3 for over three months, becoming somewhat of an urban phenomenon. Indeed, the video was so hot that even MTV Base added it, irrespective of the fact its production values were way below their usual standard. Following the success of Free Yard, Aggroreleased his first mixtape, "Aggro-Culture Vol.1", a diverse, heavily Samba influenced body of work that dealt with the multitude of different challenges that face a young man growing up in London. Again, this was met with critical acclaim, and lead to collaborations with Giggs, DJ Ironik, and Marvell, among others, culminating in him signing with Mercury Records in the summer of 2008.
His first set up single on the new imprint, “Culo”, had support from Cameo, Swerve and Mistajam, whilst the video was added to Channel AKA, Flava, and MTV Base, laying the foundation for 3 more massive singles that are set to drop in 2010. Hold tight for the first of these, Rhythm N Flow, available on his forthcoming mixtape…
As usual, watch this space Aggro is definitely one to keep your eye on.
