"AGHAST!, a Hitchin based extreme metal quartet, deliver brutal and imaginative songwriting along with a good dose of somewhat twisted humour... Compared to Suffocation and Morbid Angel, they do their Death Metal roots justice whilst integrating twists and turns of a more exploritative nature"
The founding members of AGHAST!; Christiaan Verheij Van-Wijk, Nicholas Plews and James Anson, have been playing together since 2001. However, it was not until 2004 that the idea for AGHAST! came into being and Mark Wilkie joined the fold. In 2005, they recorded their first demo; “Sardonic States of Comparison”, which was not widely distributed. Christiaan and James graduated from univeristy in 2006 allowing them to dedicate more time to the band. Shortly afterwards Mark decided to leave the band to pursue other interests. Consequently, in early 2007, the final line-up of Aghast was completed by Daniel Henderson and Ryan Moore.
In October 2007, at Soundarc Studios in Shefford they recorded their first EP entitled; “A Wolf in the Kingdom of Heaven”. The four tracks contained therein demonstrate the diverse range of influences that make up the AGHAST! sound, the product of several years of experimentation and musical exploration. 2008 saw AGHAST! in the midst of their most extensive period of touring to date, playing over 50 shows at venues throughout the country.
However, all was not well in the Aghast! Camp. Due to personal issues, Ryan Moore was left with no choice but to leave the fold and pursue his own path.
In October 2008, the band entered Earthworks Studios in Barnet to begin recording their second EP entitled; "Afterlife Crisis". This second offering showcases the progression that AGHAST! have made in the past year. Look out for the new EP and AGHAST! at a venue near you in 2009!
"The band’s base Death Metal sound is undeniable, and with the experimental elements being ever more tightly-woven, all that’s left is for a label to give the band a chance and allow their killer songwriting skills to form an entire album of this sort of thing – and when that happens, I have no doubt at all that Aghast will be close indeed to taking the crown of UKDM."

"this is one not to be missed. Not only is it an AMAZING cd but these guys are such charismatic individuals that in time, they will be impossible to ignore" - spiritofmetal.com
"On their self-released EP A Wolf In The Kingdom Of Heaven [7] Brit outfit AGHAST! deliver slithering death metal heavily in debt to Morbid Angel's mighty Domination with occasional whassat? moments of weirdness. A full album would be nice." - Metal Hammer -10.06.08
"AGHAST! is an onslaught from beginning to menacing end...the Hitchin quartet is relentless in its pursuit of dark metal. Brutal, guttural, fierce, and obtrusive: it’s a heroic performance that, although short on time, is big on impact." -DTAMusic.co.uk
"AGHAST! "...a roaring hardcore assault with the odd amusing fashion statement thrown in." - Kerrang
"AGHAST! - a metal band with a difference. If you thought metal was all about pummelling drum beats, hospitalising guitar squalls, vocals that verge on the masochistic and an incredibly dodgy dress sense, then you'd be absolutely correct. But when was the last time you saw an extreme metal band play pass-the-parcel with the crowd? AGHAST are assured to please metal and non-metal fans alike with their unique take on the genre." - Rogue ..

As you may or may not be aware SoundARC hold a charity gig every year at Club 85 in Hitchin in aid of the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth, and this year we are going to try something a little different from previous years.
This year we are going to take over the club and host 37 acts in one weekend putting full bands upstairs and acoustic acts downstairs in an event that we are calling ARCfest!
It all starts on Friday 4th December at 7pm and then continues on through Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th from 12pm-11pm
As well as raising money for the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth, ARCfest will showcase all the different genres of bands that we at SoundARC have come across over the last 4 and a half years. Over this weekend a lot of the acts that you will see don’t get a chance to play a great local venue like Club 85, So as well as hearing new music you will see all manors of genres and styles from acoustic - Metal - Indie - Rock - Punk - Electro - Ska - Funk - Hip Hop/Rap - Alternative - Rhythm & Blues - Reggae - Grunge and loads more that I cant remember!
