Although every attempt is made to involve Alex and provide his friends with unique, relevant content and messaging, please know that Alex cannot always personally respond to your emails and comments. Thank you for being a part of this page and for supporting Alexander O'Neal.
Born on 15th November 1953 in Natchez, Mississippi he is now based in Minneapolis but frequently commutes to the UK, his second home.
Alexander’s career began in the 70’s when he put his own band together with which he toured across the States, within this time he developed his distinctive vocal talents.
In 1978 he joined production outfit, Flyte Tyme aka Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. After working together for two years they eventually parted company and Flyte Tyme went on to become the backing band for Prince.
The early eighties saw Alexander launch his solo career, making his first recordings in ’84 with Jam and Lewis. His self titled debut solo album, was released by a local label called Tabu (distributed world wide by CBS).
A year later generated his first UK top 10 Hit ‘Saturday Love’ as well as ‘A Broken Heart Could Mend’ and ‘If You Were Here Tonight’ both of which feature on his live album.
The release of Alexander’s second album ‘Hearsay’ came in ‘87 and featured major club anthems ‘Fake’ and ‘Criticise’ - the album sold over 700,000 copies in the UK alone. Alex has managed to traverse the ages garnering support from young and old. His great songs that has stood the test of time with many of his best cuts being remixed in the early nineties achieving massive chart results and becoming huge club anthems . This period saw Alexander embark on several sell out UK tours including six sell out nights at Wembley Arena. These performances were highly memorable due to his on stage antics with an over sized bed and invited female members of the audience! It created scenes and reactions only seen since on Madonna’s Blonde Ambition tour. Alexander’s 1991 album “All True Man” demonstrated an ever-increasing fan base and led to another gold album selling over 400,000 in Europe. His worldwide success was celebrated with a greatest hits collection in 1992, which was his second platinum album in the UK.
1993 saw his fourth studio album released. "Love Makes No Sense" was a top 20 album in the uk and spawned the singles "In The Middle" and the title track.
In 1996 signed to the One World label, Alexander O'Neal brought out "Lovers Again". It was the first album he had done without being on the Tabu lable and there was no Jam & Lewis at the helm. Featured on here is the duet with Cherrelle of "Baby Come To Me". It would be five long years until we would get another album release but it was worth the wait. "Saga Of A Married Man" was produced by Prince's former drummer Bobby Z and went through the range of emotions man feels when Married.
2004 saw a release of another greatest hits package. This one went Gold in the UK within three months of its release.
"Live At The Hammersmith Apollo" was released in 2005 and is the first live album O'Neal has produced.
With his personal love of performing on stage and constant tour support from his fans it was a clear progression for him to deliver the live experience in the form of an album. He has hand-picked tracks that traverse the success of his career singing alongside a 12 strong piece band.
Following on from the Live CD in 2007 a live DVD also recorded at Hammersmith, London was released.
2007 was a very busy year, with a second appearence on the BBC prime time show "Just The Two Of Us". The previous year on the show he had duetted with popular tenor Russell Watson, and the song performed is now included on Watsons new album "Thats Life". ....
2008 has seen the release of "Alex Loves.." which is the first studio album for 7 years. The new album consists of some of Alexander's favourite tracks over the last few decades. With many artists of the R&B/Soul genre releasing similar albums "Alex Loves.." is not pegged down to the usual soul standerds but shows a more diverse range of songs. Alex has recorded the Take That hit "A Million Love Songs" as well his take on songs by Elton John, Heatwave and Boyz II Men.
Also included on "Alex Loves.." is an updated version of Alex's own hit and fans favourite "If You Were Here Tonight".
"Alex Loves.." is a celebration of music from all genres, and another example of the love Alexander O'Neal has for all types music.
Just getting in there early to wish you a very Merry Christmas, hope you have a wonderful time and I hope you've enjoyed my song samples so far this year.

Hey! some people hide behind such untruths, while spitting all matter of ill will against you, sometimes it better to pity the fool. forgive them for they know not what they do,
always lurking in the shadows whispering evil thoughts a plenty, i know to the weak they seem like they would not hurt a flea, a great man once said it's not what goes in you that defiles you. it's what you manifest within your imminence that luminance you,
a wise man would say let it be for fools can't see, beyond their pity jealousy bickering while bathing in misery , where ever you go you will meet these poor lost souls, mingling inside false temples living off fools gold,
they wish to lead and rule the misguided that they often do, beware for fools the road to hell offers them many clues, when you think about it only the tormented will follow such people as these, have nothing constructive to offer,
a gain of sand is like a mountain to them too high to climb that is a nightmare to their dream, it is best to let them be so easy to over look them for time is too precious to dwell among the lost,
the haters, slanders, gossipers, back stabbers, war mongers, elbow rubbers all are lairs, shit starters and stirrers, you will know them. as they often come in the pretense of a friend.
HAPPY THANKS GIVING TO YOU AND YOURS!! HUGS AND BLESSINGS! XX
