“One of the freshest talents to rise from the Bristol scene” – BBC Radio
After travelling around the world and coming back home to the UK, Alex decided it was time to get down to recording a collection of songs. With plenty of existing material still sounding good and a whole raft of fresh ideas and new influences, one of the hardest jobs was to limit the album to a focused ten-track listing. The result is a collection full of extremes, from big, textured sounds through to more stripped-down acoustic moments.
Jim Barr (Portishead) was involved in early sessions, and plays Bass on three tracks. Top players feature throughout the album:
Dan Moore (Phantom Limb) on Piano, Hammond and Rhodes;
Beth Porter (The Cedar / Babel) Cello; and Christian O’Donnell (Jeunesse) on Guitars.
It’s no great surprise that Alex’s career has taken a musical direction as a singer and a songwriter, with both his parents being respected jazz musicians. But the phrase singer/songwriter only tells part of the story. Alex is a notoriously hard-working ‘gigger’, playing solo as well as with other bands and musicians at venues all over the UK, Europe and Australia. He has worked with the likes of Roni Size, Kosheen and Phantom Limb to name a few well-known Bristol music exports.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you like the music... we play London quite often, but we're actually trying to get in touch with some promoter to organize a gig in a good venue in Bristol, do you know anyone btw?
I'm an actress, got a film coming out in the UK Oct 30th, love you to go see it. It's called PHILIP PULLMAN'S THE BUTTERFLY TATTOO, take a look for more info...
Hi there thanks for finding me. Lovely voice you've got and nice songs too. I spend quite a bit of time in the west country so perhaps i'll make it to one of your gigs! Best wishes Eloise x
