“Singer, songwriter, musician, and a tropical nut..." That’s how the Brazilian artist Alisson Mark defines himself. He was born in the city of São Paulo which is the cultural and financial capital of Brazil. There, he had private classes with the famous guitar teacher Renata Montanari and vocal coaching from Consiglia Latorre and Magali Mussi. He was Reynaldo Garrido's and Roberto Bomilcar's student, both conductors who taught him Theory, Arrangement and Music History at ULM - Universidade Livre de Música SP - BR. He also graduated in Marketing at the Catholic University - PUC.
As a singer, songwriter and musician, Alisson recorded with many talented and famous artists in Brazil, such as Dominguinhos, Agnaldo Rayol, Claudya, Fabio Jr., Chitãozinho & Xororó, Rosemary - Jovem Guarda, and his song “Neon” was included in the sound track of the famous soap opera called “Louca Paixão” (Crazy Passion), turning out to be a huge success.
With the tune “Sem Dor, Sem Você” (Without Pain, Without You), he participated in the Tatuí’s Festival in 2005, one of the most important Festivals in the country, being awarded for best performance along with Claudya, a famous Brazilian singer, who was intensively praised by the songwriter Tim Rice when in her performance of "Evita" written by Andrew Lloyd Weber. The Canadian Jazz singer Josie Vie has performed and recorded some AM tunes as well. Songs like “Stay with Me”, “Sweet Days, Good Times”, lyrics and music by Mark, and “Sapphire Blue”, which is a partnership with Ms. Vie, will make part of her next new outstanding album.
The songwriter is a partner of the guitar player Richard Giuffrida and the lyricist Fernando Gue, the latter being recorded by Grammy nominee Luciana Souza in collaboration with Elis Regina’s guitar player Nathan Marques.
Whether performing as a sideman or a band leader, A.M. has sung and played his guitar in hundreds of venues - Theaters / Nightclubs / Pubs etc. and a wide range of genres, including: Bossa Nova; Pop; Rock; Country; etc. In Brazil he taught singing and guitar, and also wrote for some famous magazines in the music industry like “Acoustic”.
The Album “CLASSICS”, which is one of his latest projects, was released as a collection, where all songs were produced and performed by him. In this collection Mark sings and plays many different instruments, creating new arrangements for famous pop and rock songs, such as The Beatles, Creedence, and The Police. In Brazil he also released the album “MANDARIN”, a compilation of everything he has done for the last ten years as a professional songwriter, working with different kinds of Brazilian styles such as: Bossa Nova, Traditional Samba, Afro and Latin Jazz, among others.
Alisson moved this year to New York City in order to, not only broaden and expand the horizons of his career, but also, as per his own words, “to breathe some fresh air”.
Currently, he has released a single EP with four tracks called “THE WOLF TIME”, which will make part of an exciting new album that AM is preparing to release in the Brazilian, American and European market in the second semester of 2009. Wait and see! |
