biography

Alistair Albrecht started producing in 2008 with his first release ‘What Would We Do’ with DJ partner Patrick Hagenaar going straight to No.1 across every major DJ download site and supported by the likes of Eric Morillo and Pete Tong. Since then Alistair has gone on to top the Tech House Charts, have 3 tracks simultaneously in the top Ten House charts, remixed for some of the biggest labels in dance and DJ’d around the world.

Alistair has always been at the forefront of the dance music culture, before producing he was involved in organizing the first ever ‘Desert Parties’ in the Middle East, earned his UK DJ stripes at the legendary London venue ‘Turnmills’, became main resident for and controlled the venue promotions at Pacha London while his own clubbing brand was also one of Pacha’s most successful and longest running nights.

In 2008 Alistair took his clubbing brand onto the international stage, started a new DJ partnership with friend Patrick Hagenaar and began producing under various guises. Having already produced a track with vocalist Abigail Bailey and college Wayne O’Connell (Soul Avengerz) which was picked up by then Major UK label Gusto Records Alistair and DJ partner Patrick formed ‘Hagenaar & Albrecht’. The duo went onto produced one of the biggest tracks of the year with ‘What Would we Do’ becoming the No.1 House track across every Major DJ download site for most of the summer.

2009 brought a wealth of remixes and the release of Hagenaar & Albrecht’s follow up track ‘In & Out’ on Dutch dance heavy weight ‘Spinnin Records’, again topping the download charts receiving rave reviews, support from Roger Sanchez to DJ Mag and one of the most heavily comp’ed tracks of the year. With three Hagenaar & Albrecht productions in the top ten and continuing his DJ commitments around the world Alistair began producing under alterego ‘Codec shift’. The new deeper darker guise topped the tech house charts with ‘Mean Motion’ and opened the way for future steps into the more underground side of dance music.

Alistair began 2010 with two major remixes for Hagenaar & Albrecht, the duo had caught the eye of US major label Atlantic Records and were asked to produce two big hitting remixes for 6 Time Grammy award winning star ‘Toni Braxton’ and new upcoming artist ‘Wynter Gordon’. This new relationship paved the way for the Hagenaar & Albrecht follow up production ‘Won’t Let You Down’ to be released on Atlantic’s parent company Warner Music’s new dance imprint OMT. Forth coming at the end of the summer this big hitting 80’s classic re-work is already causing a stir on promo and will give the duo their 1st major release across the Atlantic.

Taking a break from H&A and carrying on from the previous year’s success alongside A&R direction to ‘Make it Weirder’ alter ego Codec Shift signed a two track EP to one of London’s most respected underground techno labels VeryVeryWrongIndeed. Released later in the year ‘Viper Room’ described as pure laid back sleaze and ‘Cyrus One’ as a space age groover rolling around in zero gravity, look set to establish Codec Shift in this notoriously difficult genre.

Alistair’s Solo productions have also been causing waves with his first release in 2010 selected for the DMC buzz charts and his prize project of the year, a re-work of the 90’s Barry White, Roger Sanchez classic ‘Love Is The Icon’ signed to the hugely sort after and respected international label ToolRoom Records. 2010 looks to be another hugely successful year for Alistair with a three track album deal with Warner alongside productions under his other aliases and a continued DJ schedule.
