It's not enough to tell tales of Spanish transvestites, old boys on the run in Spain, pixies enchanting ones dreams, or even to simply declare that they are gonna Steal Your City Lights (which they undoubtedly will).
It's not even enough that the songs they play are instantly recognisable like one of your old favourites, even though you know you've never heard them before.
These are mere footnotes though my friends, because the true delight is that Allegro are something to believe in. And love God dammit.
Their cheekiness endearing, their songs enchanting, exuding a fuzzy romance and doffing a cap at the world they have created, they really will change everything... or at least your Friday night. This band will steal your hearts and souls and fall in love with you. Just as you will fall in love with them.

ALLEGRO City Lights
I'm not sure Allegro is a wise choice for a band name. It brings the legendary British Leyland family saloon to mind. Which is, with hindsight, much derided as a piece of automotive history. But of course in musical terms it means quick, lively, or cheerful.
Which is was you get from these cheeky cockney 'diamond geezers'. City Lights is a big slice of suitably chaotic modern pop / rock. Perfect for a knees up down the boozer. Modern day Small Faces, if you like.
And what's the lead singer's name? Yes, you guessed it - Austin! Cor Blimey Gov'nor, I nearly wet me strides

Review 2
Hi Austin,
Listened to City Lights last night and let me just say straight off that I love it, I listened to it several times over and I can’t wait to play it again when I get home tonight. Here’s why:
The first track (CITY LIGHTS) is brilliant, catchy as hell, lovely driving drums – insistent and unrelenting, excellent songwriting too. I love the synths over the top, it’s a really effective contrast against the driving drums and guitars and lends the choruses a kind of reflective quality which is perfect. Basically whilst the song has that really cool punky edge to it, it’s also a great pop song if you see what I mean – it makes a perfect first track and it really sticks in your head. The second track (WON'T YOU SEE) follows perfectly and makes absolute sense as part of the record; it’s this lovely melancholic quiet moment in between the 1st and 3rd tracks and it’s stripped down acoustic guitar and vocal are really really nice. Again it’s a really good song and I love the bits where the vocal goes briefly into falsetto, it gives the whole thing this bitter sweet logic. The third track (HOLA SENIORITA) is great fun, refreshingly different again to the first two and it reminded me a little bit of Pink Flag by Wire and I mean that as a massive complement as it’s one of my all time favorite albums. There’s something really exciting about it, I can’t even put my finger on it but I just felt instantly really good when I heard it.
As a whole it’s a really great CD and I love it. The biggest compliment I can think to pay it is that every track is different but every track sounds like it belongs as one of the three – that’s difficult to pull off. Often you hear a collection of songs that just sound like they’ve been thrown together without any thought for what they actually sound like as a collection, not in this case though. Another big point to make is that your vocals sound not only really technically accomplished but also completely original and very fucking cool. I would know an Allegro track if I heard it just from the singing alone – good work!
City Lights is great music, all the way from the opening snare hits through to the last fade out to bongo drum - I’ll be listening to it a lot, nice one mate, I can’t wait for the next one!
