   About Amaranth Road

BIO: I, like so many others, have made the cross country shift from Ontario to British Columbia and have become addicted to the fresh air and mountains. My musical interests are based in folk traditions and I can frequently be found playing my fiddle in Celtic sessions in Vancouver. I taught myself to play the guitar in highschool and wrote a few songs that never saw the light of day. Luckily I found Malcolm in Vancouver, who had the guitar know-how to turn my teenaged chord structures into workable songs. Malcolm is an actual native Vancouverite (rare I know!) who has spent the past few years working on a solo project of his own involving instrumental guitar compositions. Amaranth Road is our joint project that merges our complimentary talents--I focus on lyrics and melody, while Malcolm focuses on chord structures, rhythm and recording. Malcolm's experimentation with flamenco guitar techniques has meant a productive shift away from typical steel string compositions and adds a twist to the singer-songwriter genre.

Love-Lies-Bleeding is our first album and is a themed composition which traces a relationship from its beginning to its end. We aimed to create an innovative glimpse into the corners of love that are frequently left out of songs. We have also attempted to convey a range of relationship scenarios and perspectives. Our protagonist moves from obsession, to doubt, to desperation over the course of the album, and we have included the perspective of a mother watching her child struggle with a relationship.

I hope you enjoy our music, and with any luck we will soon be playing coffee shops and pubs around the city.
