THERE ARE A BAZILLION DIFFERENT WAYS TO MAKE A LIVING
It’s possible you have no idea what you want to do when it comes to a career. Or maybe you’re doing something now that you don’t want to do anymore. You certainly aren’t alone there. Every year thousands of students come to AC to make a change or try something new.
On the other hand, you may know exactly what you want or you may have a job that you want to do better. Whatever the case, we want you to meet your goals.
We have more than 150 degrees and certificates that you can earn. Don’t be overwhelmed by the number—it’s a good thing! That means our advisors and counselors can help you find just where you fit. And even if you change your mind later, it’s still no big deal. (A lot of people change their mind, and their degree plan, more than once!)
ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES AC A DULL SCHOOL!
After a hard day of classes and studying, you should do something fun. At AC, there’s always something cool going on: Badgerama, celebrity performers, concerts, plays, FallFest. Intramural sports has something for everyone and there are dozens of student organizations and clubs:
* Amarillo College Engineering Society
* Alpha Beta Gamma (Business)
* Animation Club
* Art Club
* Automotive Club

Health of University Students)

Music
If you love music and want to perform someday or help others discover the joy of playing or singing, then take note of our Music program. For more then 65 years, Amarillo College has provided the people of the Amarillo area, and beyond, opportunities to experience, study, explore and enjoy the universal language of music.
The Mission of the Amarillo College Music Department is "to be a center of musical learning and cultural enrichment within the community of Amarillo and the surrounding Panhandle of Texas, by providing a comprehensive two-year musical curriculum for transfer students, elective courses for the non-music major, musical training for younger students, and performance opportunities in various ensembles for students and members of the community."
Television
Interested in radio and television? Amarillo College offers three options for those seeking a career in radio, television or a related area.
* For individuals seeking to transfer to a four-year
university, an associate in science degree in Mass
Communication with an emphasis in radio/TV is
available.
* For those intending to enter a career in radio or TV,
two associate in applied science degree options are
possible: Broadcast Production or Broadcast Sales and
Marketing.
* For those seeking an even faster transition into the
job market, certificates are offered in both Broadcast
Production or Broadcast Sales and Marketing and a
Basic Certificate is available in sales.
In addition to quality instruction, students will have the opportunity to apply, after one semester, for jobs in commercial radio and TV stations as well as the public broadcasting station. The department posts notices of all jobs and encourages students and graduates to also apply for internships and practicum positions. Departmental scholarships and state broadcasting workshops are additional student opportunities.
Job Placement Information:
According to the most recent data, 100 percent of graduates of Radio-TV hold media positions. More than 77 percent of students enrolled in Radio/TV or Mass Communication courses during Spring 2000 held paid positions in radio, television, other related media, or had non-paid experience in a media position. Fourty percent held paid positions, and 53 percent had non-paid experience (i.e. media practicum, media internship, observations, election coverage, pledge drive).
An advanced radio student is selected to the KACV-FM Music Director position each semester. In addition, KACV-TV offers positions to qualified students as Master Control operators.
AC's College Relations Department in cooperation with the Radio/TV Department hires at least one advanced TV student who is enrolled in Media Practicum to produce spots to air on Amarillo's WB station and to produce other college promotional spots as assigned.
Postings for positions at commercial radio and TV stations are placed in student lecture and lab rooms.
Heroes
All of the great administrators, faculty and staff that make Amarillo College a great place to get an education.
I am a college. And I want you to be a student, if you aren’t one already. My mission is to help you understand why AC rocks! (And also to help you see how your life can be improved through an education at AC.)
Guess what? I’m not a small school! There are more than 10,000 academic students during an average year. There more than 150 things to study, so we can probably find something you’re interested in. PLUS, I have a bunch of campuses—four in Amarillo (plus an outreach center), one in Hereford and one in Dumas. AND if you really don’t want to leave home, then keep your pajamas on and take some classes online. I have dozens and dozens of classes and even a few complete degrees that you can finish from the comfort of your own home. Or the nearest coffee shop.
That's not all...I know you're looking for a real college experience. Sure you’ll have great professors and classes, but I can keep you busy outside of class, too. There’s always something going on, things like Badgerama, FallFest, live bands, celebrity speakers, coffeehouse, intramural sports, student government, all kinds of stuff. Trust me, at AC, we play as hard as we work.
And hey, don’t worry…THIS ISN’T HIGH SCHOOL!!! Sure, you might run into friends and former classmates, but there are all kinds of people at AC, from all over the world. Come be one of us!
..
..
Who I'd like to meet:
Well, I guess I’d like to meet you!
But…who are you?
Are you a high school student planning to get a job right after graduation? Why not swing through here first? I can get you extra training in a few weeks or a few months that will get you more skills and more pay.
Are you a high school student who wants a Bachelor’s degree or beyond? I’ll help you get two years of solid education and courses that will transfer to the four-year university of your choice. (Psst…and I’ll save you a TON of money!)
Maybe, just maybe, you’re older than 18? No biggie. You want a better job? I’ll help you get the training you need to get a better job. You want to finally earn that degree you’ve been thinking about? I’ll help you do that, too. Do you already have a degree? I can still help you reach another, higher goal!
The thing is, I’m all about improving the quality of your life, no matter what stage of life you’re in. Why not check me out? What do you have to lose?
Well, I was going to post a pic of the UNTRUSTED CONNECTION notices that I get when trying to get into WebAdvisor so I could ask what was up with that, but you disabled html. So... What's up with this: *insert untrusted connection warning picture here*??

During the Depression in the 1930s, Doolin had a confectionery in San Antonio. Always an innovator, he got a bug to put some kind of corn snack on his counters. Tortillas staled, so Doolin went on a mission. At a gas station, Doolin found a Mexican man making an extruded corn chip out of masa, frying it and selling little bags of the fried corn chips. They were fritos, the beach food of Mexico. Doolin bought the patent and 14 customers from the man and began to make the chips in his own kitchen at home, with his mother perfecting his recipe.
Elmer Doolin was so taken with the bag of corn chips served with his lunch in San Antonio, Texas that he paid $100 for the recipe. In 1932, he started the Frito Corporation. Original Fritos ingredients are limited to whole corn, corn oil, and salt. Even today, Fritos (original and barbecue flavor) are a vegan snack. This is how your lunch snack came into being. I like them better than regular potato chips.
Charles Elmer Doolin is one such man. Possessed by a vision. By corn. By creating snack food. Doolin was obsessed with Fritos, his daughter Kaleta said.
