Rumba Latina was held on Saturday 12th May 2007 at The Baytree Centre, Brixton.
The night was a fabulous success, raising £950.65! This money will go towards:
* Buying books for 5 to 7 year olds, so that we can support them with improving their literacy and developing their love of literature! Many of our beneficiaries parents are unable to complete the recommended amount of assisted reading time with their children due to working full time and/or literacy/English problems themselves. This programme is filling a very important gap.
* A coach to South End on Sea for our Creche children. Every year, our Creche takes all the children, and their families, to the seaside to give them a new experience and a fun day out. Our creche offers mothers who come to improve their skills at The Baytree Centre the peace of mind that their children are being well cared for, and educated according to the Governments Early Years Learning Goals. Many of the children in our creche only began learning English when they started coming to us. This annual trip to the seaside is important for the social development of the children and their families' social integration.
* The production of 300 DVDs about The Baytree Centre.
The Baytree Centre is a unique project and many people fail to quite understand what we do and what we achieve for our beneficiaries until they come to visit us. This DVD was very generously filmed and edited for free, and now we are going to produce 300 copies to take to groups and funders to generate widespread support, and hopefully funding, to ensure that we can continue to help our beneficiaries turn their aspirations into realities.
A massive thank you goes out to everyone who came along to the night, made a donation and promoted the event to their friends and colleagues. An even bigger thank you goes to the 7 volunteers who worked tirelessly to make sure that this event happened.
