She's only been a songwriter for a year, but already Amy has created a catalog of songs that have been attracting the attention of critics and audiences from coast-to-coast. A former classical pianist turned singer (she was performing in Europe by age 17), Amy always had a love of classic American Song. After singing and playing piano in New York City clubs for a few years, she decided to revisit the music of her childhood – classic bands and singer/songwriters of the 1960s and 1970s - and spent a summer writing madly in an unfurnished Brooklyn apartment.
While in New York, Amy expanded her musical community to include filmmakers (see Lucas McNelly's "Gravida" [2007] featured in the NOW Film Festival) and choreographers. In 2007 she helped coach the Brooklyn Youth Chorus' performance at Elton John's sold out Madison Square Garden 60th Birthday Celebration and also helped the chorus prepare parts for a guest spot on Talib Kweli's new album, "Eardrum" and for Alicia Keys' appearance on a Sesame Street holiday special, among other events.
Recently, she placed 3rd in the renowned Shure/Montreux international Jazz Vocal Competition. She also spent time opening for Ozomatli and Mike Gordon this fall while recording her debut EP. Currently, she is working with UBQ Productions under the direction of Krystian Suber, Bruce Purse and Prince Charles Alexander.
Her sound is undeniably catchy and upbeat – with influences that include The Beatles, Dido, Janis Joplin, Elton John, Amy Winehouse, Stevie Wonder and Jon Brion – and polished with a vintage sheen that makes Amy one of the freshest new songwriters on the scene.
"The California native is just beginning to be noticed by critics and audiences on the East Coast."
