I grew up in Milwaukee playing classical piano. I started playing trumpet around the age of 5 by sitting down at the piano and plunking out notes! I began to take an interest in jazz in high school, listening to some of the swing bands of the 1930s, such as Benny Goodman's ensemble. I begun studying with Mike Plog, a fantastic Milwaukee-based jazz trumpet player. My first contact with 20s jazz was at Organ Piper Pizza in West Allis, WI, where I met musicians such as Bill Davison, John Knurr, Jimmy Christiansen, Bruce Yeo, Ron Reseigh, and the living legend Joe Aaron. While continuing on with modern jazz, I began to pick up other instruments such as clarinet, banjo, sax, and trombone. I now attend school at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I continue to write and perform regularly in both modern and traditional styles of jazz.
Hey Andy, didn't expect to hear from you so soon. Thanks for the add. You've got a great site, great friends, and great talent. Hope to see you soon. JK
Hey, what's up cuz? My dad keeps talking about you telling me that we should team up and take the show on the road. Your tunes sound great. Move to Chicago soon so I can watch you play, and maybe you can accompany me sometime too!
I'd love to hear them if you don't mind sending them on to me. (Email, or snail mail?) I wish I had known your "record shop" was just a trial thing, I wouldn't have minded paying for your work. I'm sure it's worth it, and hey, artists put a lot of effort into what they do - it should be paid accordingly. What do you charge? :-) Or, if you like, I can email you some huge (high res) pics of Bix that I've collected - let me know.
Hey Andy, how was your latest "gig"? (Wasn't it teaching at band camp or something?) Anyway, just wanted to say Kenny and I enjoyed meeting you and Dave and hearing you guys play. You're even more impressive in person.
Oh yeah, Sue's right, just wait until she sends you a copy of the videos, Tom is totally groovin' on you guys. The look on his face is pure bliss. (And don't you dare say he's grimacing in pain!) Take care!
That Lyon & Healy probably looks more like a real cornet than these Conn Victors. If I didn't know any better, I'd suspect they'd been constructed out of parts fished out of a junk-yard, but then again, that's part of their charm :-) I sure have no complaints about their sound.
Can I just say this for the 900th time? I love your cornet solo on Stampede. It's got bite! (Or maybe "kick" is more accurate...well, in any case it rocks...or...well, swings. Yeah, that's it!)
Hi Andy Schumm

Fantastic music! I love it! I'd love to hear your group play Jean Goldkette's "My Pretty Girl." Just a though. Oh, and feel free to check out my music profile:

I think you'd like the song "Borneo."
I'm still diggin' San- Oriental Foxtrots are where it's at! I'm thinking of doing my next CD a compilation strictly based on just those wonderfully PC (yeah right) tunes. I've just been going through Ebay bidding on any song I can that has 'Oriental Fox Trot' somewhere in the title- while doing so I've come across a bunch of nice tunes that I'd never even heard before!
Now wait a minute.... now I KNOW Bix beirderbeke does not have a myspace page, dude there is no way he'd even be able to turn on the computer let alone look up 1820's silent porn... :)
Thank you for accepting me as friend. I have listened to your recordings, and I like what I hear. Music should be fun, and yours make me want to join in!

Hot Tamale man sounds fabulous- bummer that you couldn't make it out. Sorta short notice but we're playing Sunday as well, I don't know why I didn't think of that when I talked to ya earlier. If I make it up this way again, we'll definitely have to get together and talk shop about this jazz nonsense!
