This video clip tells the love story of my grandparents Walter and Jutta Matters and features my folk version of the old Yiddish song 'Bei Mir Bistu Shein' which was made famous by the Andrews Sisters in 1937 and later covered by many jazz singers including Ella Fitzgerald.

"One of the great local albums of this year" - Michael Mackenzie, ABC Radio National
"Ange Takats has some interesting stories to tell but the hook is that soulful voice she tells them with. There’s real grit and passion there. Check Tip Toes, with its slow-mo guitars and gorgeous piano lines giving foundation to a song full of yearning ... Takats sings the you-know-what out of it: not too hot, not to cold, just right" - Noel Mengel, The Courier Mail
“Ange Takats could easily prove to be Australia’s answer to Britain’s Laura Marling” – The Canberra Times
"Her lyrics, like diary entries, are filled with stories about a life lived without hesitation" - Kate Stark, The Gatton Star
“There is such disarming honesty to these songs… the arrangements reflect Ange’s on stage performance style; they are mostly understated and always graceful” - Lonnie Martin, The Folk Rag

Born in Sydney but now based on the Sunny Coast, singer songwriter Ange Takats somehow managed to begin her musical journey in Bangkok where she was based for two years as a foreign correspondent.
Spending her days on the road with a TV news crew, and her nights singing Joni Mitchell songs in a small music bar...Ange was able to mix her two greatest passions.
After several months playing solo she was asked to join a folk rock band, teaming up with some of Thailand's top musicians to perform every Friday and Saturday night at one of Bangkok’s most popular acoustic music venues.
Singing songs from the early 70s, drinking sweet Thai whiskey and learning from Buddhist musicians with big hearts, Ange's songwriting has been greatly influenced by her time overseas.
Strangely enough, her Americana music influences came from the guitarists and singers she hung out with in Thailand who owned old hippie records left by US-soldiers during the Vietnam War. They introduced her to singers like Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joan Baez and groups like The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers and The Band.
Following her adventures in Asia, Ange enjoyed four years of chasing summer around the globe – spending time in the Middle East, Canada, Ireland, Spain and getting back to her Hungarian heritage in Eastern Europe.
Ange has performed at:
The Woodford Folk Festival; National Folk Festival (winner of 2008 Lis Johnston award); Cygnet Folk Festival (Tas); Nannup Music Festival (WA), Tamar Valley Folk Festival (Tas); Burke & Wills Folk Festival (Vic); Yackandandah Folk Festival (Vic); Maldon Folk Festival (Vic); Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival (NSW); Palm Creek Folk Festival (Qld); Wintermoon Folk Festival (winner 2007 Song Competition - Qld).
Ange has played support for: Tété (France), Kristina Olsen (USA), Tim Rogers, Renee Geyer, Grace Knight, Bobby Flynn, Abby Dobson (Leonardo's Bride) & Andrew Morris.
