The band Anick started in spring of 1998. Anick Dorais, leader of this powerful band (singer/guitars/songwriting) sings her soul with a solid rythmic section: Mathieu Théberge (drums since 98), Nicolas Fortier (bass since 2003)
The ensemble brings their vision of the world with an heavy-emo-rock mixing sensitivity and aggressiveness. Lyrically, Anick words is the truth unspoken, the cries of the lost souls. With only two mini-cd, Anick is already recognized by the music community and medias as the best kept secret of the old capital.
With Karatak, the band is proposing a blend of English and French songs, Anicks latest release demonstrates an important evolution of the band since their lastest album.
Going from the straight-forward, in your face attitude found in the open title Karatère, moving to the mellower passage of No Name and ending the journey with the supernova Katin, Katarak goes into an amalgam of musical and lyrical emotions.
Successfully merging pop/alternative with a touch of progressive rock, the trio delivers raw and
energetic performance without being over-technical neither simplistic.
Redevenu un trio, le groupe a longuement préparé l'album Katarak, dont la sortie est prévue au début de l'automne. Cet album propose un judicieux mélange de pièces en français et en anglais témoignant de l'évolution importante du groupe depuis la parution de The Brick.
Le caractère hargneux et dénonciateur que l'on retrouve particulièrement dans les textes français vient frapper l'imaginaire et la conscience sociale sans toutefois verser dans les stéréotypes véhiculés par plusieurs groupes engagés.
