Animal Logic was formed in late 1987 as the brainchild of Stewart Copeland and Stanley Clarke, who were working together in Los Angeles.
After auditioning hundreds of potential singer/songwriters without success, a two-song demo tape forwarded by a music publisher to Copeland of a then-unknown Deborah Holland, and her subsequent hiring, created Animal Logic.
The band was orginally known as "Rush Hour" and included Police guitarist Andy Summers. Shortly after hiring Holland, who wrote nearly all the songs for the band, they played a short tour in Brazil, after which Summers left. Miles Copeland, also the manager for The Police, helped eventually choose Animal Logic as the band's permanent name.
The first Animal Logic album was released on I.R.S./Virgin Records in 1989, the second in 1991. The first record reached 106 on the Billboard U.S. charts, but the band split shortly after the second CD was released, as the hoped-for major commercial success did not occur, and Clarke returned to more lucrative studio and film recording. Copeland's former bandmate Sting was at one point advertised as joining Animal Logic for a portion of their last U.S. tour, but the collaboration never in fact occurred.
Animal Logic's unique sound was provided by Holland's considerable lyrical and songwriting ability, combined with the all-star rhythm section of Copeland and Clarke. The music produced by the band can be considered as some of the most intelligent and sophisticated pop-rock offered in the past twenty years.

HEY! I was watching Wimbledon today and I heard a snippit of Animal Logic as they were going to a commercial break! I think it was "Rose Colored Glasses" but it was too short for me to identify on one pass. I was so psyched! Anyway, hope Deborah, Stanley, and Stewart see a little cash for that, or maybe it's time for a comeback reunion! all the best, Paul Kuhn Violin, Vocals, Cellocaster Milwaukee via Aspen via D.C. via Milwaukee USA
This band was absolute proof of how successful the dumbing down of America really is. Those two albums were the pinnacle of songwriting and production of "pop" music for the day, featuring some of the most talented musicians alive, and people bought Michael Freaking Bolton records, instead. Ronald Reagan, thanks a million!

Thanks for adding me ! I was turned on to Animal Logic's first CD when it came out by our back up vocalist at the time . She said "You have to check out this singer and these songs!" All I could think was "That's Stewart Copeland and Stanley Clarke! In the SAME BAND!!!" She was like "Who?" I'm an actor now . Look me up . I worked on the new Batman movie The Dark Knight . Hey just checking in, well I am 3 songs into this album and it is sounding fantastic. Getting a lot nice things said about my drumming and writing skills. Which is always nice. Been rehearsing 2-3 hours every day. And will be touring sometime this year. And also finishing up the record.
