By the arrival of the new millenium, after two major label releases and numerous nationwide and South American tours (including Ozzfest 1999) with former band PUYA, Ramon Ortiz was feeling the need to give life to a new heavier incarnation of his musical soul.
Driven by a burning desire to take his trademark Latin Metal sound to a new level, the Puerto Rican guitar player set out on a new journey.
ANKLA was officially formed in 2001 ,meaning anchor in spanish the concept behind the name is a dynamic fusion of metal and caribbean(mostly puertorrican)music delivered in a savage way with tons'o groove.
After several different lineup changes and many shows in the U.S. , Puerto Rico and Mexico the band released its debut album "Steep Trails"(Bieler Bros. 2006).Its single "Deceit" ended up in heavy rotation in Hard Attack(Sirius Satellie Radio)and ANKLA was invited to play the whole Ozzfest 2007 tour.Steep Trails was voted12 on the list of top metal albums 2006 of Revolver Magazine according to Sirius Hard Attack.Many national and international tours followed after that.
ANKLA consists of Ramon Ortiz(guitars,cuatro),Eddie Macias(vocals),Jose(Pepe)Clarke(drums),Oscar Santiago(percussion),Tony Castaneda(bass).
In 2009 the band releases its second recording,the "Persistence" ep,a six song collection that positions Ortiz & Co.way ahead in its evolution of latin metal.SUELTA EL ANKLA!!!
