Perhaps you saw Antonique in the Broadway cast of RENT, or maybe it was her performance of "O Holy Night" at Glen Burtnik's Xmas Xtravaganza, or was it her performance of "All By Myself" at XL or "Let It Be" at The Cutting Room?
Born on August 11th in New Jersey, the kind-hearted, charming and multi-talented Antonique has spent her life in the city of East Orange just outside of Newark. The house in which she was raised is still the home of her parents and younger sister. Antonique is incredibly close to her family. She counts her parents among her very best friends and her little sister Antonia as her favorite person in the entire world. Anyone who's met Antonique can attest that her strong sense of family values, friendship and loyalty are evident in every smile she flashes and hug she shares; traits that have impacted her growing fan base in a number of memorable ways.
Growing up, Antonique was influenced by such artists as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Barbara Streisand because she was also an amazing actress. She performed in various plays and musicals at school and at her local church where she was (and still remains) a member of the choir. From the very young age of three-years-old, Antonique always knew that her calling was "to be a star" - but how she would make that happen wasn't obvious until many years later in life. Despite her voice being a truly natural gift from God, any evidence of the awe-inspiring talent we hear today wasn't even present until her early teens. Antonique can honestly credit the power & beauty of her voice as being a divine blessing that was merely strengthened by singing along to the music of the world's greatest divas on the radio growing up and more recently having the privilege to work with the amazing Dr. William Riley.
Though most famous for her leading role as RENT's Mimi Marquez on Broadway, she has guest starred on television shows such as “Law & Order” and has a role in the Golden Globe nominated Julie Taymore feature film entitled “Across The Universe” which is where she says she was bitten by the film bug. She's currently in theaters as the starring role of Faith Evans in "Notorious", the major motion picture about the life and death of rapper Biggie Smalls. Heralded as “an amazing actress with a great career ahead of her,” by the legendary Sidney Lumet, Antonique is pursuing a career in film and television while also continuing to make her dream of a Grammy-winning recording career into the most amazing of realities. Throughout her life, Antonique has been emotionally touched by the melodies and lyrics of artists from every musical genre, soul music being her greatest inspiration, and that personal attachment has always driven her to use her own love of singing and songwriting to attempt to touch the lives of others.
She left her role on Broadway to write, record & pursue more film opportunities. She has performed to packed crowds numerous times at such New York City hotspots as XL and The Cutting Room, co-owned by Chris Noth (Sex & The City, Law & Order) among others. She hopes to return to those stages performing sets of her own original material once her album is completed.
Her career is in its early stages and for those that follow her, it will be a unique opportunity to view a shining star from the beginning.
