ARCHON was formed on the eve of 2008 by members of NYC doom heavyweights Agnosis, Tides Within, and 12 Eyes. Andrew Jude and Ryan Lynch enlisted drummer Dan Kurfirst of Scribes of Fire to bring their doomed vision to life. Veterans of the doom metal scene, the members of Archon created a sound that is both unique as well as true to their roots. Combining the epic heaviness and groove of Electric Wizard, Sabbath, and the Melvins and the experimental doom of Neurosis and Buried at Sea along with elements that are uniquely their own, Archon forged a deadly combination of crushing doom metal and blackened psychedelic atmospherics.
In the spring of 2008, a debut recording, Evocation, was recorded. Evocation is 2 songs, over 30 minutes, of pure apocalyptic doom and psychedelia. Recorded by Brett Z and mixed and mastered by Andrew and Ryan, the recording also features additional guitarwork by Brett and Shane LaPorte.
In March 2009, Archon plans to enter the studio again to work on additional material for their first full length, which will feature retouched versions of the two tracks from Evocation along with 2-3 new compositions. The as of yet untitled record will be available in North America through Dissected Angel Records.
