Perched on the corner of Broadway and Emergence is the guitar-driven, doors-ish music of Arms Up. The beginning of 2007 saw five men embark on a visceral musical journey. After a mere three months of local performing, the band was rewarded when they heard their name being announced at the University of Saskatchewan Attack of the Bands; past winners include Junior Pantherz, Ultimate Power Duo (both of which have been to SXSW ’06) and the Blood Lines (showcased at CMJ ’06).
The summer of 2007 welcomed the first release, musically, by Arms Up. Their debut album ‘not from montreal’ made its way into the ears and hearts of the awaiting crowd, and some passersby. While Arms Up released the ep for free, the reviews were far from cheap. ‘not from montreal’ has been renowned locally and internationally, earning the guys airtime in as major metropolises as Berlin, Tokyo, London, New York as well as others.
Mike (Heavy-D), Matt (Voyno), Mark (Mark), Jim (SnowDove) and Andrew (Handle Bars) hoped that the success in airplay would expand into success on the road, and expand it did. Western Canada was entertained by both the rhythmic creamy-rhodes sounds of Arms Up and the sometimes witty, sometimes crazy, but always entertaining antics between the five guys on stage. Arms Up played on the same bills that featured The Weakerthans, Bedouin Soundclash, State of Shock, Wide Mouth Mason, and Three Days Grace.
While 2007 saw the birth of these five men, 2008 will surely see them grow. Their debut video “Time to Change” was premiered locally in early January and has already caught the interest of many internationally. They continue gigging locally, opening for touring acts from across Canada. As they establish themselves as the band to see in Saskatoon, they look forward to playing every festival, shady bar and bar mitzvah possible. While Arms Up prepares for their second Western Canadian tour, they can only hope that Western Canada is prepared for them.

you guys finally have an all ages show since roadkill (im not even sure if that should count or not) and im not even in the province.. ill be in alberta! BUT, i hope all goes well for the show and you guys melt some faces!
