I have written songs since I was 8 years old, first starting out to make lyrics on Shadows instrumental songs and record them on a mono taperecorder. I play guitar since my 11th birthday and due to my brother Martin who played classical guitar. I seriously started writing songs at the age of 15. My dad died in 1986 (when I was 16) and that had a tremendous impact on my teenage life and songwriting. A couple of my songs are about my dad. "Oh Why" (1986), being my first ballad, "About A Year Ago" (1987) and "Cold And Dark" (1992). Mayor influences for me are Kevin Cronin (REO Speedwagon), Gary Richrath (REO Speedwagon), Dave Amato (REO Speedwagon), Bruce Hall (REO Speedwagon) and Neal Doughty (REO Speedwagon). And also Progressive and Symphonic Rock from Kansas, Starcastle, Pavlov's Dog, Styx and Journey. In 1987 I formed with my best friend Eric the duo "Train To Nowhere", the musical style was a mix of reggae (Eric) and folk-rock influences (Arno). There were definetely creative sparks between us...he even looked a lot like Gary Richrath. Man we were two fucked up teenagers lol...Eric writing some deep lyrics...I writing the cords and melody. Songs with titels like "Getting Strong" ("Just put on some place, my brain is getting closer, why me to live this race"..) and "Blank & White" ("Black and white what were we doing, black and white lets all unite"). After that I went on on my own, writing songs and working on my guitar playing (Fingerpicking style). I made an appearance in 1998 in the REO "cover" band at The Star Plaza in Merrillville, USA. Meeting so many creative people in my life. I was lucky to meet REO Speedwagon's current line-up over the years and even Jim Peterik outside the Star Plaza theater! In 2003 I co-wrote the song "Have A Little Trust" together with poet Rebecca Pocket from the USA. At the end of 2004 I wrote the song "Never Again" dedicated to the victims of the terrible tsunami that hit Asia. In march 2007 hitting the stage in The Hague and performing in his hometown Hengelo at the Rabotheater at a talent contest. In oktober 2007 I was asked for the radioshow Kakaphonie from Radio Midvliet and played three acoustic songs with interview. Also played a gig again in The Hague at Lokaal Vredebreuk. In march 2008 playing at The Cactus in his hometown Hengelo. I saw many bands play at the Cactus and always hoped I would be playing there and now I did! And now it is 2009 and still writing songs and playing guitar!

I look to you when I need to find away to let my inner feelings show, when words are rushing quietly through my mind like a beautiful river as it flows. Holding you in my arms I move my fingers up and down your neck, I plug you in just to turn you on while deciding on the perfect effect. Finding within us the message to awaken their awaiting senses, while making them believe they're walking through lush green meadows, maybe being surrounded by little white fences. As I touch and move your strings you respond with the magic of your caressing sound, inspiration is lending itself from every direction, only needing me to be aware of what we together may have found. Speak to me easy my six string image of beauty, let me hear yet another dream that will share someone else's weight that they alone are still trying to carry.... ~Nick Nichols~ Have a great day my talented friend, enjoy the poem I wrote.... Many miles of smiles to you, ~Nick~
