Arno Smitshoek (ARNEO) has written songs since he was 8 years old, he has played guitar since he was 11 and seriously started writing songs at 15. His dad died in 1986 (when he was 16) and that had a tremendous impact on his life and songwriting. A couple of his songs are about his dad. "Oh Why" (1986), being his first ballad, "About A Year Ago" (1987) and "Cold And Dark" (1992). Mayor influences are Kevin Cronin (REO Speedwagon), Gary Richrath (REO Speedwagon) and Steve Perry (Journey). And also Progressive and Symphonic Rock from Kansas, Starcastle, Pavlov's Dog and Styx. He has written over 100 songs. In 1987 he formed with his friend Eric Bijker their band "Train To Nowhere", the musical style was a mix of reggae (Erik) and folk-rock influences (Arno). After that Arno went on on his own, writing songs and working on his guitar playing (Fingerpicking style). There are people who compare his style with Neil Young. He made an appearance in 1998 in the REO "cover" band at The Star Plaza in Merrillville, USA. Meeting several times REO Speedwagon's current line-up over the years and even Jim Peterik! In 2003 he co-wrote the song "Have A Little Trust" together with poet Rebecca Pocket from the USA. 2003 was a very creative and productive songwriting year. At the end of 2004 Arno wrote the song "Never Again" dedicated to the victims of the terrible tsunami that hit Asia. In march 2007 hitting the stage in The Hague and performing in his hometown Hengelo at the Rabotheater, are the higlights of 2007 so far. In oktober 2007 he was asked for the radioshow Kakaphonie from Radio Midvliet and played three acoustic songs with interview. Also played a gig again in The Hague at Lokaal Vredebreuk.
