About Art Murphy and Backslider

Art Murphy started his musical career in 1966 in Saint John N.B.Born in Newcastle (Miramichi) New Brunswick Canada, Art got the rock and roll bug and it has never left.During the 1960's and 1970's Art performed with the groups"Polyannas Dreamworld"and "Hard Road"with which he recorded the 45rpm"Love Potion No 9/Not Here With Me"on Interpro Records in Canada.During the 1990's Art performed with his band"Lookout"and in 2000 started"Backslider".The original members included:Ron Morrison,Rick Halas and Jacques Poitras.This group recorded the CD"First Gear/Rereleased".A big thank you to guitarist/producer Joe Sauntry for all his work on"Butte Montana/The Last Buoy Bell".Members changed over the years and continued performing being called"the hardest working band"in the area by the press.Art toured the country during the 1970's and appeared in magazines such as Rock Scene from New York as well as BMI Canada and Jive Times out of Toronto to name a few.Today Art continues to write and record his style of Atlantic Canadian rock and roll.His influences growing up can be heard in his music and the style he plays.All photo's of Art and scenes of our area and a whole lot more by James Bond at jimsdigital in Miramichi N.B.
