"An artist is an interpreter of inspirations which, in this case, become the conception of music and lyricism in a distinctive form called ARTWORX."
Founders Carlos Santos (Bass), Hugo Lopes (Guitar) and Carlos Rodrigues (Drums) (all ex. Drakkar) envisioned this project as a way of expressing their own songwriting creativity as well as their technique self-ruled. It all started in the year 2003.
They took the helm in seas of uncertainty chasing the other two well needed elements: a voice and a keyboard-man.
Only in the year 2004 they found Eduardo Inácio for the vocals after several auditions within many others candidates. And in the same year they had no doubts when Rui Gonçalves was established as the ARTWORX’s keyboards. Almada (Portugal) became the birth-cradle of a new progressive metal band.
After a bunch of shows and a hell of an outstanding presence in the finals of one Portuguese Metal contest called “Loud Metal Battle”, Eduardo Inácio left the band and was replaced by Hugo Soares (ex.Ethereal).
With the new front-man, ARTWORX promoted themselves circulating and playing live within the milieu, always receiving excellent critics from their fellowship towards the great performances they presented. Friends and critics relate ARTWORX with bands such as Dream Theater, Nevermore, Iron Maiden or even Opeth. The sounds grabbed from the four instruments and the remarkably unique voice and character of Hugo S. demonstrate influences from the old Heavy Metal with scents of a progressive vein, tasting harder and power chords, brilliant synths and lots of energy and strength to those who listen to live. Nevertheless, the main gold is to be ARTWORX as their main inspiration!
Presently working on two songs for promotion along with the circuit of live spaces and also labels across the globe, you can already have a glimpse of what these guys are preparing on the bands MySpace.
During the summer 2008 ARTWORX intends to play live to promote the band, while the recording of the first album is planned for the end of the year.
