Bazaar’s way of playing is elegant, light and display a winning sense of humor. Their unique sound-aesthetic as well as their special instrumentation give them an unmistakeable trademark – „BAZAAR MUSIC“! Originally from different cultures - partly very diverse and distant, like sweden switzerland and iran – the musicians have found a common source of inspiration. Heritage, musical openness and the urge to explore, provide the basis for their compositions and improvisations. Presented with passion, magnificent creativity and a fine sense of humour.
The new repertoire are mainly compositions by the masterminds Asita Hamidi (harp) and Bj..rn Meyer (bass). This combination of creative visions has proven to be very fruitful over the years, so also this time. This dreamteam, supported by Bruno Amstad and Kaspar Rast - the best singer and drummer imaginable, is simply predestined to win! ( according to the magazine “Jazz’n’More”…). Asked about the origin, intensity and uniqueness of their music, they say:

Psychedelische Klänge aus den wilden Sechzigern und Siebziger Jahren, Death Metal, Extreme Noise Core und politischer Hip Hop assoziert man wohl nicht gerade mit der arabischen Welt. Aber genau um diese Musikwelt geht es in der audio-visuellen Lesung & Performance "Sonic Traces From the Arab World" von norient (Thomas Burkhalter, Simon Grab & Michael Spahr). Auf eine besondere Art werden Forschungsergebnisse aus dem Labor von www.norient.com präsentiert: Ungewohnte Töne aus der arabischen Welt werden gemixt, dazu entsteht eine Videocollage aus Eindrücken aus dem arabischen Raum, Found Footage und Video Clips. Das Ganze präsentiert norient als interaktive Live Performance. Die Performance wurde mit dem sitemapping Preis des Bundesamts für Kultur ausgezeichnet.
Norient hat in der Ausstellung «TRAUM UND WIRKLICHKEIT - ZEITGENÖSSISCHE KUNST AUS DEM NAHEN OSTEN» im Zentrum Paul Klee zehn HÖRSTATIONEN eingerichtet. An verschiedenen Sonntagen treten in der Ausstellungszone zudem jeweils um 15 Uhr Solo-Soundkünstler auf. Erdem Helvacioglu (Türkei), Hicham Chadly (Algerien), Raed Yassin und Nehad el-Sayed.
