   About A State of Flux
Share/Save/Bookmark

“Picture this: heavy, progressive rock awash with ambience, tinges of trip-hop and electronica. Add to that a jazz-influenced vocal and suddenly this picture just got very interesting“ - Helen Barradel, Beat Magazine

"A State of Flux are truly unique. They don't sound like anyone else in Melbourne, or anywhere else, at the moment; they span heavy metal, art rock, middle-Eastern music and big band jazz, and have a theatrical, cinematic influence on their live shows that would make other art rock bands envious. Their concerts are not gigs in the traditional sense, they are sensory experiences" - Brad Dixon, OZProg.com

“The eclectic songstress for this quartet orchestrated a hyperbolic journey of quirky time signatures and haunting voice projections where unexpected shifts in scale and intensity could be found. Together with a brooding tide of guitar, bass and temperamentally primal drummer, A State Of Flux emerged as an eccentric music-piece to elaborate our city’s domineering individuality” - Justine Cleghorn, PBS

“A State of Flux have blurred the edges of genres seemingly diametrically opposed to one another, creating a soulful and richly detailed soundscape that at once appeals to the heavy art-rock set as well as those whose tastes dwell on it’s fringes“ - Helen Barradel, Beat Magazine

“They’re one of Melbourne’s best-kept musical secrets“ - Brad Dixon, OZProg.com

A State of Flux is a band determined to push the boundaries of modern alternative rock

their musical style is original, intense, progressive & brooding, falling somewhere in the vast musical landscape between bands such as massive attack, nine inch nails, kate bush & tool

A State of Flux was born in 2004 in melbourne, australia when vocalist Roni Shewan put her vocal ideas onto a series of songs written by producer Red Black | after collaborating on a vast amount of recorded material, the pair then recruited the rhythm section of Atticus Bastow and Matt Delaney and set about honing their live show and making their mark on the Melbourne live music scene

2007 saw A State of Flux perform live extensively in the lead-up to the release debut single, sharing melbourne's best stages with highly respected acts such as Sleep Parade, Sydonia, Long Walk Home, Five Star Prison Cell, Sleepmakeswaves, Bushido, Mushroom Giant and The White Room

2008 sees A State of Flux fresh off the successful release & subsequent interstate tour of their debut single Surface Tension | They are currently gearing up for the release and launch of their debut EP

produced & mixed by Red Black at red lodge & studio 52 in melbourne, & mastered by Joseph Carra at crystal mastering, the self-titled EP represents a staggering musical achievement for the band | Roni Shewan’s powerful jazz-inspired vocals are contrasted against searing and creative rock guitar and bass. blazing drums meld seamlessly into innovative electronics & progressive elements are explored fearlessly

2009 will see A State of Flux’s first national tour in support of the EP release. Upon returning to melbourne the band will be gearing up for the release and launch of a Remix CD, containing remixes & reinterpretations of songs off the debut EP performed by some of melbourne’s most talented electronic artists, including Luke McD, Justin Ashworth & Milique

this is being followed by the release & launch of a DVD containing live documentary & performance footage & the digitally animated film clip Surface Tension by melbourne visual artist Heath Freeland

A State of Flux are a band with definite artistic & musical goals & the drive and fearless creativity needed to achieve them. original & genre-defying, with one eye firmly on the future, they look forward to delivering their unique musical message to the world for many years to come . . .

It's going to be a monster four band pile up on highway 666 as Vultures of Venus crash into the Birmingham on Thursday the 3rd of Dec. Their debut LP which is now available through I-Tunes has been receiving strong support and favorable reviews from local radio RRR, PBS and Syn Fm. It will also be available in hard copy on the night. This gig is gonna be fun, fun, fun on the Smith st autobahn. Armed with big rock riffs and blazing electrified keys this is the Vultures first show since their sellout LP Launch. This is a band with a plan; and that plan is to make you do the Can Can.
Joining them on the night is Mirrorhouse Antics whos live show is a cross between the Arctic Monkeys and The Stooges. They have just released their debut album, recorded at Bakehouse by Mikey from Eddie Current Suppression Ring. Dan Webb's 60's styled Hammond infused insanity is gonna be something to look out for as well as the 'Wise Flys' : they'll make you laugh they'll make you cry, they'll make you laugh about crying.
And don't forget to look out for the crazy clown pinyada filled with burning flesh and give away fun toys for the kids. This is a B.Y.O "leotard friendly event ". So pour yourself into your favorite and come on down !!!

Roll up roll up, Vultures of Venus are back in town you funky disco cats. And guess what? ... their self-titled debut LP is finally here! Ten tracks of unadulterated Glampunk Electro madness! It’s unleashed on Thursday 29th of October at Bar Open on Brunswick St. It’s Bowie on steroids; it’s Marquis de Sade and Andy Warhol screaming at the moon through a home-made vocoder. The Lollyshop is open for business ! It’s going to be a huge night filled with bubble machines, strobes, psychedelic video projections and cautionary tales to tell your grandchildren. It will also feature live performances from those vixens of burlesque “the Venus Man Traps”. Support on the night comes from psych-popsters Go-Go Sapien serving up synth-infected garage with lashings of ravenous big sexy guitars. Make sure you get down early to catch the debut performance by newcomers Tusk. And most importantly we have kept the entry fee down to a very affordable – FREE ! Copies of Vultures of Venus’s LP can be scoped up for a low $10 on the night. Yee-Har space cadets !
