I recently took a big bite of life... and I’m still trying to digest it all.
In addition to my bustling career as an astrologer, I’m now also co-owner of The Sacred Well, a metaphysical shop in Oakland. The store opened in mid-October, and so far it’s been a smashing success. The space is gorgeous and full of wonderful energy, if I do say so myself. (Everyone else seems to think so, too.) And what a treat to look out the store windows right onto Lake Merritt -- it’s like icing on an already delicious cake. I love meeting all our Lower Grand neighbors (that’s the name I’ve coined for our local neighborhood), and starting to establish the relationships that will comprise the community we’re building.
Being a professional astrologer affords me many great chances to become quickly intimate with a multitude of strangers. In one short hour, we connect on a deep level. Then, off they go to lead their lives. It’s a beautiful thing -- and a wonderful use for my clump of 8th-house Aquarian planets.
I love writing. Currently, I spend much of my writing time on composing essays (astrological and personal) and weekly horoscopes for my website, www.astrobarry.com. My horoscopes also appear in FAMOUS, a celeb-lifestyle magazine based in Sydney. I recently noticed how little effort I’ve put into my ‘creative’ (read: non-astrobarry-related) writing over the past couple years. In 2008, I intend to refocus on that.
In my private life, I spend much of my time with my amazing partner Ricky and our devilishly adorable dog JoJo. I love socializing, but I’ve discovered I’m more of a homebody than I previously knew. ‘Prone, on the couch, remote control in hand’ is my favorite position. I also usually have a computer or two within reach, should I need to resolve a pop-culture trivia question or check my email for more doting correspondence from friends or strangers that’ll probably take me way too long to reply to.
