ASUNTO, or also known as XASUNTOX, is a metalcore band that was formed in 1995 in Santiago of Chile. Pioneers in the South American hardcore scene, ASUNTO it’s catalogued as the oldest and with the most trajectory vegan straight edge band in-force in the world.
HISTORY
Formed by the two brothers Raúl and Ignacio Jiménez, Mitchel Aedo and Andrés Urzua, ASUNTO is a process creation that starts to show his results at the beginning of 1995 and 1996. The main idea was to show another alternative to everything that was known at that time, giving and showing a new way to be and live against the capitalism, trying to give a coherent and drug free message, with a Vegan Straight Edge attitude. Talking about ASUNTO isn’t only to talk about a hardcore straight edge band; it’s also to talk about the beginning and the history of Straight Edge in Chile.
In 1997, they recorded their first demo-tape totally auto produced, and it’s distributed at their shows. That same year they were invited to play in Buenos Aires (Argentina), to play in the South American Animal Liberation Meeting, where they played with other South American bands. While in Chile, little by little, it became to birth and built a hardcore straight edge scene.
In February 1998, they recorded their first album called “No Te Dejes Derrotar” with a fusion of old and new school hardcore sounds. After this, they continued playing weekly in a strong growth scene. In the month of July, they played at Mendoza (Argentina).
In 1999, ASUNTO recorded their new EP called “Renacer” at the HYT studios with the engineer Carlos Torres, and was masterized in France by Sebastian Lhoro and David Mancilla (Stormcore, Overcome Records). The album “Renacer”, with a new school metalcore sound, was a classic element at that time to the Latin-American hardcore, and transformed as an inspiration to a hundreds of bands around the world. That same year ASUNTO played at Concepcion (south of Chile), and also in Buenos Aires (Argentina) again. Parallel that same year Raúl, Ignacio and Mitchel formed the band called XCUESTION DE RESPETOX, with Gonzalo Jiménez, Gonzalo Terán and Paulo Cornejo.
In 2000, ASUNTO started to play regularly at live shows and also started to edit compilatory material. At that time they came through a lot of changes in their initial band members and that’s when Andrés (bass) leaves the band by personal choice and Paulo of XCUESTION DE RESPETOX took his place in ASUNTO.
In January of 2001, “Renacer” was edited in CD format by 78 Life Records from Brazil. The album contained three unpublished songs: Tristeza 2000, Perseverancia and Mi Convicción.
In the beginning of 2002, Mitchel leaves ASUNTO, and Raúl Santana took his place. With this new formation they recorded a new album called “Confrontación”, which was their consolidation in the metalcore sound scene. Because of some external issues the album was edited in the beginning of the year 2003 by Survival Records from Chile. Not so much time after that Mitchel came back to ASUNTO as a band member.
In the summer of 2003, ASUNTO played in Sao Paulo at The South American Hardcore Fest (Verdurada), with some auxiliary band members because some of their original couldn’t travel to Brazil. Raúl Santana leaves the band by personal issues and Frank Millard took his place in the band.
In 2004, they played at hundreds of shows around the country. In December 13 the album “Cuando Las Sutilezas Mueren” was edited by En Tus Venas Records. This last album was the consolidation of ASUNTO in the international scene and also a renew sound for Chilean bands, fusing melodic death metal and hardcore.
In 2005, Frank leaves ASUNTO, and that’s when Rodrigo Godoy took his place. In the middle of this year ASUNTO made a European Tour in fourteen countries, playing at twenty-five shows. Also took his final place in the Chilean musical scene, taking out of the underground the hardcore scene and promoting metalcore sound and the vegan straight edge movement. That year they made massive shows for over thousands people, playing with bands from other musical scenes.
In 2006, the compilatory album “El Fuego Sigue Ardiendo” was edited in Mexico by Decision Personal Records. Thanks to the support that the record gave to them ASUNTO played in countries all over South America like México, Colombia and Perú to name a few.
That same year they started to make and record new songs.
In 2007, Mitchel leaves the band and Frank came back to ASUNTO. With these current members they had a new tour in México. Their album “Afirmación De Vida” was edited at the same time by En Tus Venas Records (Chile), Decision Personal Records (México), Por Tu Capricho Mueren Records (México), Sin Fronteras Records (Colombia), and Dignify Records (Argentina). ASUNTO received the award to The Animalist Band of the Year by the two chilean organizations: Actitud Animal and Federación Chilena de Instituciones de Protección Animal (Chilean Federation of Animal Protection Institutions).
In the present 2008, ASUNTO is waiting the edition of their new album “Afirmación De Vida” by labels from USA, Europe, Brazil, and Hong Kong. The band has also started the making process of their new material for their new album that will come alive at the end of this year.
With five albums, thousands of shows of experience, international tours and a hundred per cent to give in every show, the band is still on top, being loyal to his audience year after year, captivating new followers at every show
ASUNTO, o también conocida como XASUNTOX, es una banda de metalcore fundada en 1995 en la ciudad de Santiago de Chile. Pioneros en la escena hardcore sudamericana, es catalogada como una de las bandas vigentes vegan straight edge con mayor trayectoria y antigüedad de Sudamérica.
Con 5 álbum realizados, miles de shows de experiencia, giras internacionales y una entrega al 100% en cada una de sus poderosas presentaciones, la banda continúa estando vigente, no defraudando a su fiel público de años y cautivando nuevos adeptos en cada uno de sus poderosos shows.
HISTORIA
Formada por los hermanos Raúl e Ignacio Jiménez, Mitchel Aedo y Andrés Urzúa, ASUNTO es un proceso de creación que comienza a dar sus frutos entre los años 1995 y 1996. La principal idea es mostrar una alternativa a todo lo que se conocía hasta ese entonces, pretendiendo dar un mensaje coherente y libre de drogas, con una postura vegan straight edge. Hablar de ASUNTO no solo es hablar sobre una banda de hardcore-straight edge, es hablar sobre el origen y la historia del movimiento straight edge en Chile.
En el año 1997 graban su primer demotape totalmente autoproducido y lo distribuyen en sus shows. Este mismo año son invitados a tocar en Buenos Aires (Argentina), para el Encuentro Sudamericano por la Liberación Animal, tocan con varias bandas de Sudamérica. Mientras en Chile, poco a poco, se va gestando y construyendo una escena hardcore-straight edge.
En febrero de 1998 graban su primer álbum llamado "No Te Dejes Derrotar" con una fusión de sonidos hardcore old y new school. Luego de esto, siguen tocando semanalmente en una escena en fuerte crecimiento. En el mes de Julio se presentan en Mendoza (Argentina).
En 1999 graban un nuevo EP llamado “Renacer” en los estudios HYT con el ingeniero Carlos Torres y masterizado en Francia por Sebastián Lhoro con la ayuda de David Mancilla (Stormcore, Overcome Records). El álbum “Renacer”, con un sonido new school y metalcore, se convertiría en un clásico para el hardcore latinoamericano y marcaría una gran influencia para un centenar de bandas en todo el mundo. Este mismo año la banda se presenta por primera vez en la ciudad de Concepción (al sur de Chile) y vuelven a presentarse en Buenos Aires (Argentina). Paralelamente, en este mismo año, Raúl, Ignacio y Mitchel forman la banda XCUESTION DE RESPETOX junto a Gonzalo Jiménez, Gonzalo Terán y Paulo Cornejo.
En el 2000 la banda se dedica a las presentaciones en vivo y a editar material para compilatorios. En este período ocurren muchos cambios de formación que desestabilizan la banda, Andrés (bajo) deja la banda por motivos personales, entra en su lugar Paulo proveniente de la banda XCUESTION DE RESPETOX.
En enero del 2001 es editado por 78 Life Records de Brasil el álbum “Renacer” en formato CD que además contiene 3 temas inéditos (Tristeza 2000, Perseverar y Mi Convicción).
A comienzos del año 2002 deja la banda Mitchel y entra en su lugar Raúl Santana. Con esta nueva formación graban un nuevo álbum llamado "Confrontación" el cual sería su consolidación en el sonido metalcore. Debido a problemas externos a la banda, el disco es editado a comienzos del año 2003 por Survival Records de Chile. Poco tiempo pasó para que Mitchel nuevamente se reintegrara.
En el verano del 2003, además de editar el álbum “Confrontación”, la banda se presenta en Sao Paulo (Brasil) en el Encuentro Sudamericano Hardcore (Verdurada) con una formación auxiliar, ya que algunos de los integrantes no pueden viajar. Raúl Santana abandona la banda por motivos personales y entra en su lugar Frank Millard. Con esta nueva formación comienzan los procesos de composición de nuevos temas.
En el 2004 se realizan cientos de shows por todo el país. El 13 de diciembre es editado el álbum “Cuando Las Sutilezas Mueren” por el sello chileno En Tus Venas Records. Este álbum sería la consolidación de la banda a nivel internacional y la aproximación a un sonido innovador en las bandas chilenas, fusionando al death metal melódico junto al hardcore.
En el 2005 abandona la banda Frank, siendo remplazado en las guitarras por Rodrigo Godoy. A mediados de años la banda realiza un tour por Europa, llevándolos a presentarse por más de 14 países y realizar más de 25 shows por todo el viejo continente. En este mismo año ASUNTO logra una consolidación total en la escena musical chilena, sacando del underground la escena hardcore, dando a conocer de forma masiva el sonido metalcore y el movimiento vegan straight edge. En esta época la banda realiza shows para más de 1000 personas y comienza a compartir escenario con bandas de diversos estilos musicales.
En el 2006 es editado en México el álbum compilatorio “El Fuego Sigue Ardiendo” por el sello mexicano Decisión Personal. Gracias al apoyo de este sello, ASUNTO realiza un tour que los llevaría a presentarse en México, Colombia y Perú. Este mismo años comienza la composición y grabación de nuevos temas.
En el 2007 abandona la banda Mitchel y reingresa Frank, con esta nueva formación la banda realiza un segundo tour por México y edita su esperado quinto álbum llamado “Afirmación De Vida” editado conjuntamente por los sellos En Tus Venas (Chile), Decisión Personal (México), Por Tu Capricho Mueren (México), Sin Fronteras (Colombia) y Dignify (Argentina). ASUNTO recibe, de parte de las organizaciones Actitud Animal y la Federación Chilena de Instituciones de Protección Animal, el Premio a la Banda Animalista del año.
En el presente 2008 el sello Storm Of Justice (Suiza) edita “Afirmación de Vida” para el continente Europeo y con exclusiva distribución para el continente asiático por medio del sello Retribution Network (Japón). Además se espera la edición de este mismo álbum en Estados Unidos por el sello New Eden Records. A finales de este año Frank abandona la banda nuevamente y entra en su lugar Ignacio Bielefeldt experimentado guitarrista y un viejo amigo de la banda.
La banda ya ha comenzado el proceso de composición de nuevos temas para un próximo álbum que vería la luz a mediados del año 2009.
