from Chapter One of "Ada; or, Ardor: A Family Chronicle": Hue or who? Awkward. Reword! (marginal note in Ada Veen's late hand).

And so in 1993 David heard Matt playing "Drive" by REM. David showed Matt how to play a STP song, thinking that since Matt had long hair he would be impressed. Matt was not. A few weeks later, they played their first song together, "Just Like Heaven." In their minds they were both playing the Dinosaur Jr. version. Later that evening, Matt told two girls that David was the least talented musician he had ever played with. Six years later the band they were in broke up, but before it did, they met Robert, who had just joined a band--that would eventually come around to including Finn and that would break up in about five years. The future is in breaking up. Maybe Matt and David had some other bands, I don't know. At some party at Robert's, Ben got really drunk. Weavexx, Weavexx, Weavexx--Center of the World! I sing of your languid beauty. Then, Gold Chainz broke up and David, who had been in other bands that broke up at that point, said, "Let's make a band," and they all did, all five of them, made a band and called it AUDUBON PARK. OR: Ladies laying out on the dunes, waiting for something to happen. This is all to say: AUDUBON PARK are a pop band. RECENT CONVERSATION BETWEEN BAND MEMBERS: "Whoever has "Police Academy 2" needs to return it. It is like a week overdue." "I left it in my bed." *** *** ***
