"Quality songwriting and soaring melody are at the core of Azaidou, aptly underpinned with enticing vocals of Tim Chapman and superb musicianship of this 5-piece. Azaidou have a very wide appeal, and have the potential to go far." - Dave Grenfell, FeedMeMusic
"...a fine live band: the musicianship is excellent, the songs are very well constructed, and there's an oomph to the whole thing that you don't often find in keyboard-led bands... A band to watch." - Sam Inglis, Sound On Sound Magazine
Our demo was reviewed by one of the most respected and well-read global music recording magazines - Sound on Sound! Not only were we given a very favourable review, but we also won the award for the best offering of the month - so keep your eyes peeled for some professionally pressed CDs for sale! Here's a link to the review itself:
Thanks for all the support in getting us through to the REGIONAL SEMI-FINALS! The next round will depend on audience power as well as our performance in convincing the judge(s) so please come along, root for us and make it a summer to remember!
The confirmed venue for this will be The Dome, 178 Junction Road, Tufnell Park, London, N19 5QQ. The date will be between 14 Jul-7 Aug, we'll update you as soon as it's confirmed.
aZaidou started out as an acoustic duo when two lost sheep, Tim and Mark, found each other at an audio engineering course in north London in the first half of 2005. The would-be engineers benefitted greatly from their time there, but realised deep down that they would always be musicians at heart.
At the end of 2006, they became a three-piece with Jamie on the drums – but with ideas of expanding their sound. Whilst auditioning lead guitarists and bassists, they gigged at some top venues including award-winning pub/theatre The Bedford in Balham, The Jazz Café in Camden and Shoreditch favourite Cargo, amassing an impressive fan-base along the way. Their search for the right musicians ultimately proved fruitful, with the addition of Adam on the bass and Phil on the guitar filling out the overall sound.
In addition to the demo they recorded in May 2007, the band were handpicked for an ITV London Studios training day, resulting in 3 professional quality live performance music videos which can be found on Youtube (see above). They also recently headlined at the Clapham Grand - a charity gig which the band organised on their own with the help of FeedMeMusic and in aid of The Institue of Cancer Research. A turnout of several hundred people and around £3000 raised for charity meant that it was an unmitigated success.
With future gigs lined up at the Astoria 2 and successful progress through to the regional semi-finals of the Surface Unsigned National Festival, this summer promises to be an exciting and enjoyable one for the band, one which they are looking forward to with much anticipation.
