The duo pig&machine (AKA drillchop9, Discobeans, Baboo Mcfoo) founded "drillchop9" in Osaka in the late 90's with double bass extraordinaire - Moriya. drillchop9 was an experimental electronic outfit with pig&machine contributing the sampling, programming, guitar, keyboards and effects. Very soon after Yoko Higashino - founder of Baby Q dance company joined as vocalist and performer. Several months later Senju joined the band as drummer and rounded out the band to a 5 piece. drillchop9 performed various shows around Japan for the next year in this format. 'drillchop nite' became a regular monthly event hosting bands such as afrirampo, Ove-NaXx, DoDDoDo, Gulpepshi, Maruosa, Dat Politics (France) and Sutekh(San Francisco) and many others.
By the early 00s the band was leaning to a more electronique sound and Moriya left to form "Live Evil" - his own free jazz/noise orchestra and a dub band as the drummer. Senju left and played with everyone in Osaka before joining the latest generation of Boredoms - Vooredoms with Yamatsuka Eye.
By 2002 frustrated with the lack of venues sympathetic to new sounds, drillchop9 members (pig&machine and Higashino) in the heart of Osaka's pleasure district opened Cafe Q - dance studio by day bar/gallery/club by night. Cafe Q soon became a centre of Osaka's underground art/freak scene and continued to promote the very best of Osaka's undiscovered talent.
In 2004 encouraged by the success of Cafe Q pig&machine opened Discobeans in a tiny old 2 storey house in downtown Osaka. Discobeans - the only free gallery in Osaka -soon became infamous for it unique, groundbreaking and often extreme exhibitions/happenings/performances/events contributed by artists from all over the world.
In early 2006 Higashino moved Baby Q dance company to Tokyo and pig&machine started to perform under their own moniker when Higashino was unable to perform with them. Vocal duties were taken on by both pig&machine and their onstage performances were stripped back to produce a harsher noise laden fuckcore sound.
In 2007 pig&machine in addition with ROBOPORK relocated to Melbourne, Australia. In 2008 they opened Tabiya by Discobeans (www.discobeans.com) on High St in Northcote, Melbourne - a japanese sock shop on the ground floor and art space above dedicated to the exhibiting of "amazing shit you just can't see anywhere else!"
pig&machine have published 5 books of their images and love to cook, eat and drink!
