Band History
Although the idea for Back Pocket Prophet had been around for a few years, the band finally emerged blinking into the light from the practice room in late 2006.
The line up consisted on TiNy on Vocals, Adam Gough on Guitar, Vic Barton on Bass and Tom Power on Drums. A handful of shows, including a slot at the legendary Ace Cafe in Wembley, quickly establishing the band's reputation for energetic live shows and coupled with a full on thrash assault. Work though December and January was carried out on the bands first self released EP Dead Men Walking, released in March 2007 with acclaim from bot critics and fans a like.
2006 saw many ups and some downs for the band. During much of the first half of the year the Back Pocket Prophet was put on hiatus while the band refocused priorities and tried to decide on a direction both musically and personally. When eventually brought back together again, in the August, were a much more focused and dedicated unit. Energetic live shows were put together and work finally began on the long anticipated Dead Men Walking EP. After very positive reactions to the shows recording began in late 2006 and the EP is due to be released 16th February 2007
2007 saw the band take a step up with the number of gigs played covering large parts of the of the UK. This culminated with a headlining appearance at Chuckles Fest in June, a second stage appearance at the huge Greenbelt festival at Cheltenham racecourse in August and opening for Jeff Sheetz at Meltdown in November. By the end of the year BPP had played over 30 shows in 12 months. This also saw the first change top the BPP line up with the amicable departure of front man TiNy. Instead of replacing him the line up was trimmed down to a 3 piece with Adam doubling up lead vocals along side guitar duties and Vic stepping up the mike for the first time to provide backing vocals. The new line up was received very positively by both critics and fans alike and the band were reworded in October 07 with runner up nominations in Best Metal Band and Best 3 Piece categories at the Glasswerk New Music Awards.
2008 sees the boys beginning work on there second EP, already booking shows at new venues in new towns along side the old favourites. With return shows at Greenbelt and Meltdown planned along with first time visits to Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and a festival appearance in Denmark, 2008 looks to be an even more exiting year for this Metal Thrash Trio.
Described as A fusion of Thrash, Classic Metal and a healthy dose of Fun BPP are a band not to miss. The band made a storming debut appearance at the 2007 Greenbelt Meltdown stage. 2008 saw BPP release their second E.P and play gigs all across the UK and Europe. 2009 was the year of change with original member Adam leaving the band and 2 new members joining . 2010 sees BPP enter the studio to record thier debut album to be released Spring 2010

...I am not an specialist and maybe I'm completely wrong. However the way the demo was presented - full of surprises - made me want to know more and more about the Back Pocket Prophet. And I'm sure next time I'm at a gig I won't miss a show, so I can make sure I won't miss the opportunity to watch competent bands like the one in this review...

...For a band making their first visit to Northern Ireland they where really playing as if it was a hometown gig. The crowd where moshing away like crazy and I am sure there was plenty of sore necks come the morning after (including my own!!) The band cranked out song after song with extreme tightness and Adam Gough's intricate solo's made the excited crowd gasping for more...
John Swaine - Neon Promotions
...Guitar grunts out solid chordwork for the most part, while vocals rant and growl. It's an angry, fired up sound, delivered with much focus and plenty of metal riffage...
Dave Murphy - Oxford Bands
...Back Pocket Prophet’s classic NWOBHM fuzz and thump is just the tonic to raise a smile and a warm glow. This – go on, let’s say it - likable trio is so friendly and comfy, you see, even if it’s also tight and loud, full of meaty riffs and nourishing marrowbone jelly...
...but that would be to ignore the glaring fact that their set was foot tapping, head nodding, beer guzzling good fun, and that we’ll deck anyone who says different ...

...This trio deliver an uncompromising, full on proper/thrash metal set that is always fresh and exciting. The songs are powered along by plenty of riffery from the singers guitar - and of course there's no shortage of speedy solos. Bass puts in some dark lines that work well with the often tribal sounding drums. If you like a decent bit of metal, look no further...
Greg Sammons - Cross Rythms Radio
...The singers' 'sounds-like-they're-gargling-gravel' sound is great. It's strong and luckily he can sing in other ways too. In fact I would argue that he needs to rely less on the growl even more. This is a band that feels like it's in its infancy but could well mature into a very savage and powerful beast...

...Leaning initially towards the more languid, gothic fringes of the rock beast BPP do come across as a bit poncy and overly-serious but as they pile on the pressure and up the volume and effects pedals they come into their own a bit more. They sound like they might dream of wearing bear skins, living in pagan cave communities and worshipping earth goddesses, but they can kick out a decent riff and roar and bellow with conviction...
