    Informed in equal parts by contemporary jam bands, jazz, and alternative country, Philadelphia’s Baffle the Cat is a jam-band that plays jazz and roots influenced Americana. Established in 2007, Baffle the Cat has quickly become a local favorite, known for their improvisational chops, song-smith craft, and sprawling two set shows. The quintet plays originals and jazz standards and recently released their debut CD, “Live at Ray’s Happy Birthday Bar”. The quintet honors its influences with covers by John Coltrane, Miles Davis, & Bob Dylan while maintaining its own identity. Seven of the CD’s ten tracks are originals; 3 tracks feature vocals while the remaining 4 are instrumentals. Even when firing on all cylinders, this quintet gives off a hypnotic & relaxing vibe. Philadelphia’s Baffle the Cat has made their mark with a jazzy & jammy debut live recording. (Live on-site recording, mixing, and mastering by Jarrod Ottinger with assistance by Tom Haines.
