About me: We Fought For Marriage Rights! Bakersfield LGBTQ was born in 2004, as a result of a small group of concerned community menmbers who wanted to see more community activities and advocacy. Originally, we werer allied with Marriage Equality California, but when we decided to put on a Pride festival in the Fall of 2004, we went out on a limb and formed our own group, Bakersfield LGBTQ. We have now successfully held four Prides, and are excitedly planning our next Pride Festival for Ocotber 2009!
We were recognized by the IRS as a 501c3 non-profit in 2006. We strive to serve our community with educational, advocacy and social opportunities and to date, we have held over 160 successful events of all kinds. This Spring we have joined the Consolidated Alliance of Pride, Inc (CAPI), and this brings us into a very strong relationship with Pride committees all over the Western US and Mexico.
Our vision for the future includes a Bakersfield LGBTQ Community Center, a place where people could expect to find support groups, social events, educational seminars, advocacy groups and of course, more Pride.
Our Mission
Bakersfield LGBTQ is a nonprofit, social justice and service organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning individuals, their families and the community. We are dedicated to creating positive change in people’s lives through advocacy, education, social support and networking.
Our Core Purpose
Bakersfield LGBTQ exists to create activities which support individuals and the community at large in becoming empowered emotionally, financially, intellectually and socially.
Our Values
Dedicated Bakersfield LGBTQ members and volunteers embrace the following values and will:
·Value diversity by accepting each person’s uniqueness.
·Show respect and dignity for others by welcoming and accepting all individuals.
·Demonstrate integrity through excellence in service, honest communication and responsiveness to our Community.
·Be resourceful and enthusiastic in order to support the growth of the organization to meet Community needs.
..This group is the center of LGBTQ social and political organizing in Bakersfield and Kern County, California. We support issues and plan the grand event of the year, Bakersfield's Gay Pride Festival. We welcome all supportive folks, regardless of orientation.
..Since 2003, Bakersfield LGBTQ has been working to foster community unity via this group. We plan the flagship event, the annual Pride festival every year on Labor Day weekend, and we hold other social, political and informational events throughout the year!
Who I'd like to meet:
We welcome anyone who is supportive of LGBTQ rights and issues, and who wishes to support those rights with action. We will never discriminate against anyone based on race, gender, age, religion, ethnicity, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation. Please note that this is not a hookup group. We have members of all ages, and our activities are designed to be inclusive of everyone.
You REALLY NEED to read my most recent blog post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I received an email today from TV personality Andy Campbell of "The BUZZ" Morning TV program in response to an email I sent him about some of his very skewed and biased statements relative to a study released that suggested millions of dollars would be generated by the legalization of Gay marriage. He didn't like what I had to say at all and went far out of his way to try and argue my points. You REALLY should see this!
anyone in support of overcoming this terrible act against human equality set the following picture as your default until June 5th, lets get a 'fresher' view on the subject and get people to see it the way we do!!! Fags only drinking fountains!!!!!
I'm sorry i couldnt attend the rallies last nite, i had to do some research on gay marriage/rights for my english class, (which unfortunatelly most of the books i needed were checked out) so i had to cut it short and go to work :(
I really pictured myself holding up a banner, bummer couldnt go.
Thanks for the add, and I am writing to add the following as well since I see others add invites to events, gatherings, and more.
Community Ranch:
Howdy! I'm looking to see if any other Cowboys and Cowgirls, Bikers, and more out there are just as interested in a Gay Ranch or being part of it. I created a website to help promote it and though it's currently just on-line, my goal is to meet other Cowboys, et al, who also would be interested and could go for a Ranch to visit or live on as a resident. I could do it alone, but having friends to share in this goal would be great! Since I did create a website for the place, I don't need to go into detail, but if anyone would like to contact me and find out more about it, and/or check out the website and MySpace link, here's the title's/URL: www. myspace. com/manyspiritsranch and the link for the website is: http://www. manyspiritsranch. com.
About this page: I have been very active in Domestic Violence causes all of my adult life. I noticed a need in the world pertaining to Same Sex Domestic Violence. It happens more than people know. Unfortunately there are a number of gay people who barely consider themselves worthy or valued as a gay person much less a Domestic Violence Victim. There are also very limited resources, statistics, or information, for Same Sex Domestic Violence. Hopefully through empowerment and education we can change some of this. :D
