The tropical paradise of Bahia is known for being the first place the Portuguese explorers bumped into when they arrived in Brazil. A carnival resort that until now only a few knew to be a great resource of rock and metal bands. And there was born Brazils biggest rock phenomenon: Pitty.
A 28 year-old tattooed girl that sings, writes songs and plays guitar and along with her band (Martin - Guitars; Duda - Drums; Joe - Bass) has shaken the Brazilian rock scene out of its dullness. Pitty and her band released two records in Brazil. The debut album "Admirável Chip Novo" (meaning "Brave New Chip" was inspired by the book "Brave New World", by Aldous Huxley) sold over 250 thousand copies, had five singles hitting the top of the charts in Brazil and its huge success was followed by the release of the DVD "Admirável Vídeo Novo", featuring two documentaries of the rock underground scene in Salvador (capital of Bahia, Pittys hometown) and studio exclusive images as well as video clips and live samples. This release sold 50 thousand copies.
This album was followed by a big tour around the country with over 150 shows for audiences from a thousand to 60 thousand people.
The second album was released on August 2005 and the success of the first single, "Anacrônico", was instantaneous. It hit the top of the charts and the band has been touring since then. They have played in this years the biggest summer festivals hit songs such as "Memórias", "Ignorin'U" and "Déjà Vu" - her new single hitting the radios and MTV with enormous success. On May 2006 she was one of the main attractions at Rock In Rio Lisbon, and a reflection of her success in Portugal she returned on July 2006 to perform at Algarve Rocks.
In Brazil, Pitty is considered a teen idol as well as a reference of modern Brazillian rock and the biggest band of her generation.
The band's music influences are wide and include punk rock, alternative rock and rock in general. Bands like Muse, The Mars Volta, Queens Of The Stone Age, In Flames, Black Sabbath, Faith No More, Johnny Cash, Placebo e Ravi Shankar are some examples of references among many others.
