Biography Bas Maas
I started to play live music when I was about 16 or 17 years old. When I was young I never listened to Hard Rock. But after my brother bought a guitar I started to listen to Hard Rock. The bands I listened to were Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden.
The first bands I played in were coverbands, mainly playing old rocksongs of the 70’s and 80’s. Next to playing guitar I always used to somehow end up as the leadsinger. We played in bars and small venues, nothing big. But I had a lot of fun during this period. During these gigs I learned a lot about putting on a good liveshow.
During my study to become a teacher, about 10 years ago, I met Sander Gommans. We had the same taste in music and soon we became good friends. When his band After Forever recorded their first cd and started to become famous I offered him to become his guitartech during liveshows. I ended up doing that for 2 years. When Mark left the band, I was offered to become one of the band’s guitarplayers. An offer that, of course, I couldn’t refuse. It was the beginning of the best time of my life. Together with After Forever I toured around the world for about six years. Due to a lot of financial problems and health-issues we all decided in January 2009 to quit with After Forever.
During my time as a guitar-player in After Forever I was working on some material of my own. I wanted to play the real Rock ‘n’ Roll from the 80’s and I called some of my good friends if they were interested in working together with me. And so…. Rock Justice was born!! We’re currently working on writing and rehearsing our songs. For more info about Rock Justice check www.myspace.com/rockjusticetheband
Next to playing in After Forever and working on my own music, a special moment for me personally was a gig I did with Doro Pesch. It was very special to share the stage with this wonderfull woman who I see as an example. And I was very honoured when Doro asked me to join her as her guitar-player on her tour through England. It was, again, an offer I couldn’t refuse.
So after 15 years I have grown from a guy who likes to listen to Hard Rock to a professional guitar player who has shared the stage with a lot of gifted musicians, and still does. And I love every minute of it!!!
ROCK ON!!!!
