Bas Clas is a name derived from a Cajun insult/expression meaning "low class." The band formed in Lafayette & Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1976 and existed as a full time entity until May 1991. During this 15 year run the band's repertoire of original songs and its reputation as a powerful live band with marathon 2 hour sets established Bas Clas as an influential group in South Louisiana. Though its commercially released recordings were limited to three 45rpm singles, the band attracted the attention of producers and press who recognized Bas Clas' songs and performances as coming from the true essence of rock and roll.
Since 1991, the band has reunited only on 3 occasions, most recently to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the band's first performances.
