BatAAr is a Swedish band from Gothenburg, formed with the sole purpose to spread their own vision of how music should sound.
Although formed in late 2006, the current state of BatAAr did not take shape until recently. Since their inception, BatAAr focused on original material and playing live together. Since then, their way of doing things, their uncompromising attitude, and their crazy live shows have helped their steady rise to recognition.
Through the first half of 2007, BatAAr recorded their demo debut, ”VACUOUS”, which reached out to many fans despite its production values. The band went on to play several successful shows with respected acts in support.
In 2008, the band’s most turbulent year yet, their second demo, “faith.” was completed, symbolizing their struggle and the trials they’ve been through as a band so far. It was produced by Pontus Hjelm of Dead by April-fame.
In search of something that was truly what the essence of BatAAr is all about, the band went through many inner struggles and changes in the later half of 2008, and went into hiding to produce something inherently unique and pure, just by themselves. Far into 2009, their first demo album ”GETHSEMANE” was finally complete.
GETHSEMANE captures the essence that BatAAr had been chasing and is now part of the band’s trademark, yet it is still just a stepping stone for the things to come. The digitally-released album consists of 7 unique tracks recorded, mixed, mastered and produced entirely by the band itself.
Singing in both Swedish and English, Michel, through his versatile voice, merges everything between gut-wrenching growls to soft whispery mantras with all the emotion he can muster. Corezine wrote that “Singer Michel’s ability to switch between beautiful clean singing and breath-taking screams and growls are shown frequently.”
Guitarists and bassist, Patrik, Simon and Felix, all of them composers, bring their own unique music preferences and backgrounds into the blend. Focusing on elaborate song structures and thought-out personal styles of playing they create a unique and complex sound on the Swedish music scene, backed up by creative, fierce as well as precise drummer Tobias.
The band itself has gone through many changes and revolutions. It is clear that their music is a testament to how things should be dealt with, and they have only just begun.
