Bath Activist Network's Blurbs |
About me:
Welcome to the homepage of the Bath Activist Network. We are a Bath-based group of activists campaigning and taking action in our community on issues such as environmentalism, anti-capitalism, anti-war, human rights, animal rights and too much more than we can fit. We hold monthly meetings downstairs at the Hobgoblin pub on St James Parade, on the first Thorsday of every month from 7.30 to 9.00. Meetings are organised horizontally - which means that our group has no leaders, and everyone's opinion is equally valid. Anyone is welcome to attend, and our supporters range from pacifists, feminists, anarchists, vegans, Jo/e Bloggs on the street, to people who choose not to burden themselves with a label!
Our group is an umbrella for people with a wide range of beliefs, and means of achieving their goals - be it council lobbying, letter-writing, sustainable living, public demonstrations, info stalls or direct action; we're not even above exploiting the advert-infested swamp of MySpace!
If you are interested in getting involved, feel free to attend one of our meetings, or send us a message either here, or at bathactivistnet@yahoo.co.uk. If you have any actions you want to report, or a demo/event to announce, e-mail it to us and we'll put it on the blog page as soon as possible.
See you on the streets!

Who I'd like to meet:
We have already organised several large events in Bath, including two 'Pirates for Peace' demos, a large 'Don't Attack Iran' action, the Bath Climate Camp, monthly FreeShop, McDonalds pickets, 'The Bath Bomb' monthly freesheet and more. Current members have been involved in campaigns such as school education workshops, hunt sabotage, ban foie gras, anti-fur, freeganing, anti-fascism, disabled access issues, permaculture, mental health issues [freedom to feel!], women's rights events, squatting and tree defending, to name but a few. Our future plans involve a campaign against BMT, a Bath-based arms company who produce nuclear capacity submarines and boats, halting the loss of local retail and choice to a prospective Tesco's development, anti-deportation work, intervening in dodgy developments at Western Riverside, and maybe even a social centre: you never know!
If you have any ideas for campaigns, or want to get active, it'd be great to hear from you.
