"There are a number of reasons for loving this record. One is its innate eager and open tunefulness, another is its powerfully uplifting, entirely groovy pop psych vibes and one more is the shoehorned-in phased guitar squiggles which bubble up and shoot through the canopy of the chorus with what can only be described as gay abandon. Oh, and I forgot to mention the bit near the end where about 300 voices join together to push the already fairly well-worn button marked good times' so hard it jams and you feel like, "Well, maybe I'll have to live inside this record for ever". That's how good it is."
Rob Fitzpatrick - The Guardian
The Beep Seals formed many moons ago thanks to a mutual admiration of each other and a shared love of various things predominantly the rock band Pavement, visionary demi-god Todd Rundgren, the Animal Collective, long walks on rainy days, the sound of a really good fuzz pedal and the Beatles (obviously). Spending 2007 touring some of the world and cultivating a fearsome live reputation centred around the best drummer since Animal from the Muppets and vocal harmonies that'd make Brian Wilson punch Carl in the face; the Beeps somehow managed to release two sold out singles aswell...amazing right? Both slices of pure psych-slacker pop, cherished by the lucky few who managed to bag a copy, particularly a handful of girls currently camped outside keyboard player Phil's house waving lewd banners.
Hey guys like the new song, greetings from my new cloud base over in Levenshulme. I just heard a woodpecker peckering wood from my window. Cloud base nine x
Yesterday = an honour and a pleasure. And I got out and about in the fresh air, so my mother will undoubtedly be pleased at the inadvertent good effect on my health (of course, ignoring the fact that I had takeaway afterwards).
Hopefully some of the fruits of my labours should be ready on Sunday...
hi everyone, here's our line up for the next month at the deaf institute... and i can assure you every night is full of bloody great bands and the best leftfield dj's! we're totally happy for any of our friends to get as many people as they like on the £3.00 guestlist every week so tell your friends and keep'em coming. if you haven't been yet the venue itself is wprth popping your head in.. truly beautiful! we can also sort anyone out with free entry if you can help us do a little promo about the nights. it's tricky being based in london and trying to do a weekly up north so if anyone wants to get involved getting this amazing night off the ground and spreading the word about exceptional new bands then just give us a shout.. hope to see y'all soon.. x
Thanks for playing a wonderful set on Friday, we loved it (as always). If the filming Sarah did on Phil's camera didn't work out let us know, I filmed 'I Used To Work At The Zoo' too cause Sarah said the camera was cutting off every once in a while. Xx
