Scientist's Interests
|
| General | film, t-shirts, design, illustration, pop culture, literature, the wonders and adventure of the natural world, jell-O, overheard in NY, pharyngula, miscellaneous nonsense | | Music | eclectic taste that ranges from academic to boldfaced cheese. too, too many favorites to list. i will hunt down songs from films and also view movies just for the soundtrack. am currently loving various music blogs like fluxblog and m3 (RIP? hiatus?). | | Movies | so, so many... a room with a view (george emerson = "brought up free from the superstition that leads men to hate one another in the name of god" -- woo!), the baxter (hey, i read the dictionary too!), back to the future, anything based on jane austen, the 5th element, citizen kane, cold comfort farm, ghostbusters, amelie, anything wes anderson, anything studio ghibli, hotel de love, can't hardly wait, old harryhausen, anime... the list goes on and on. i watch a movie a night (this is what happens in the social climate of a conservative political regime -- the liberals become isolated from one another and end up homebound). lately i've been dipping a cautious toe into the waters of bollywood -- i admit it, i'm fascinated by hrithik roshan's vestigial thumb. | | Television | dead like me, little britain, arrested development, the office (brit version), and, yes, i admit it, grey's anatomy. i don't watch actual tv, however -- everything on dvd. so i'm behind on many things, miss tv-related pop culture references and (thankfully) can't contribute to mind-numbing conversations about mind-numbing reality shows. | | Books | some faves (out of hundreds), in no particular order: galapagos (vonnegut), kavalier and klay (chabon), the devil in the white city (larson), paris to the moon (gopnik), the confessions of max tivoli (greer), half magic (eager), any time life series (especially ones about science, fantasy and children from around the world), choose your own adventures, wodehouse... i'm also something of an accidental authority on the collected works of l.m. montgomery. | | Heroes | charles darwin, steve zissou, hayao miyazaki, voltaire, jane goodall, isaac mizrahi, milla jovovich, edward tufte, howl |

Who I'd like to meet:
people who are interested in talking about something other than jesus. nothing works my nerves more than a religiously fervent teen. smart people, liberal people, funny people, people with personality. note: the esqueleto thing is just a coincidence. i don't want to talk about it.
