Tres Records along with Mojoe Music System presents the latest LP release from Detroit veteran artist/producer Big Tone, entitled The Art of Ink to be released March 2009. The long awaited sophomore effort to The Drought (2005 ABB Records), once again self-produced, is Tone’s tribute to the love and gift he has for not only making music but also songwriting. Unlike his previous releases, comprised of freestyled and memorized verses, The Art of Ink is the first collection of songs entirely composed of Tone’s actual written poetry. Inspired also by Big Tone’s passion for the art of emceeing, the album is highlighted by some of today’s most notable lyricists including Blu, Guilty Simpson, Breeze Brewin, and Ta’raach. Tone’s vision to provide insight to his lifestyle and perspective lead to the tattoo based theme of the project. “Hip-hop and tattoos may seem to be just skin deep to those who haven’t been touched by them, but for those of us who have, they’ve touched our souls” says Tone. Creating music with such vivid depictions of life, love, aspirations, and growth, Tone mirrors the tattoo artists’ ability to capture innermost desires experiences, and memories on the canvas of the soul. In conjunction with the album, Tone was granted a prime opportunity to work with Tom Renshaw, one of the most acclaimed tattoo portrait artists in the world. Renshaw saw the vision, the two collaborated to design a new piece of inkwork to be the symbol of Tone’s views on life, family, and beliefs. The Art of Ink stands to be the audio complement to the visual art that is just as symbolic to Tone’s life. From the opening track, “Skin Deep” (featuring Detroit Songstress Monica Blaire) Tone gives you an introspective look at his own personal and spiritual growth. While Tone’s debut album The Drought highlighted struggle and adversity, The Art of Ink speaks on rebirth and prosperity. Throughout the album and onto the last song “Peace, Progress, God Bless” Tone portrays a sense of social awareness, inspiration, and self- enlightenment. As one of Detroit’s premier producers, Tone does not disappoint in providing a soulful soundtrack as the perfect backdrop to his impassioned literary works.

Yo Big Toneasaurus. I just found out that we're related...and as a special family only present we've made a new song for you called "End of Days" (start doing backflips now). It's an epic instrumental opus to the moment when our ancient Dino relatives saw a large fiery object plummeting towards them. Please come to our page, give it a listen and let us know if it makes you feel like something catastrophic is gonna happen. If the song upsets you too much we will be holding several s support groups (read: comcerts) in the near future. Check our page for locations, dates and times.
Hey, I just wanted to stop by to show you two of our new songs, "Almost Famous" and "She's Got It." If you get a chance, we'd love to hear what you think about the music.
