I'm truly a fortunate man in having so many friends who play and help me with my songs, though in my "singer-songwriter" gig it's pretty much me on guitar, harp and vocals at the moment. I am backed by some very talented folks on my upcoming cd however, including Marcel Desilets, Scott Bell, Dan Donahue, to name a few.
Influences
I think I've been pretty heavily influenced in the last few years by all the great "Texas" songwriters like Lyle Lovett, Guy Clark, Lucinda Williams and Steve Earle, to name a few. That, on top of the ones that're on everybody's list; Neil Young and Bob Dylan, Bruce Cockburn and Joni Mitchell. Also, closer to home people like James Keelaghan and Stephen Fearing. And then there's a very long musical list on back to the Beatles and Elvis. I'm also fortunate enough to belong to a rich musical community of players and songwriters locally, such as the Manitoba Independent Songwriters Circle, that keep the fires burning and the songs coming.
Sounds Like
People tell me I sound alot like Steve Earle, which I take as a huge compliment. Some of my songs are definitely in that vein, often inspired by his style of story telling, so I guess that makes alot of sense. Other stuff maybe would be a blend of Van Morrison? A bit of Neil, maybe? Maybe a little Lucinda and a dash of Tom Waits? Jeez, I dunno! Hard question!
An inner city Winnipeg boy, half way through life finds himself in a prairie town in Southern Manitoba writing songs about life, love, heroes and villians. Go figure. Bill fuses the country, folk, blues and rock & roll he was raised on to bring his tunes to life, full of edge, energy and longing. Songs for those who want to laugh, need to cry, get pissed off, wonder "why?"
Hey Bill, I was at my friend Matt Epp's concert last night and i figured you might enjoy some off his stuff. So here is the link if you got some time for it.
Yes!!! Let's get 'er done, book a show... wanna be your Emmylou, if'n'yer interested. I've lost track of when ABE is no more, wanna call Brian about doing the FH? What say you??? Have a great day B
Hey Bill, Long time...I've been wandering dark halls and entertaining random neural firings. Surfacing now. I played 'Paper Town' at the Harvest Sun Festival on the weekend, love that song as did the crowd. Hope you're enjoying what is left of summer, not too late to win the 6-49 if you buy a ticket. Did you get to see the Stanley Cup? That would be cool. Peace B
Yaw...good to see you got some songs up...did you need to get an offspring to help...I did, just not mine. I just love 'Papertown'...send me your dates for Brian.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend
B
