Comme le laisse deviner son nom, BILLY GAZ STATION n’est autre que la réunion de BILLY THE KILL (bassiste des feus SECOND RATE et LOST COWBOY HEROES, mais aussi folk singer à ses heures ayant publié un 1er album en 2006 chez Nova Express Records) et MATGAZ (batteur de feu HEADCASES et GLASNOST). Les 2 énergumènes se connaissent depuis près d’une dizaine d’années, mais vivent à quelque 600 km d’écart : East Side pour Billy et South West pour Matgaz. Autrement dit : Besançon vs Jarnac.
Juin 2006, sur un coup de tête téléphoné, ils décident de se retrouver sur Angoulême pour enregistrer quelques morceaux ensemble dans l’unique but d’envoyer de gros riffs, de descendre quelques bouteilles de Bordeaux et de s’en payer une bonne tranche…
Une journée de répète suivie d’une d’enregistrement le lendemain suffiront pour mettre en boite 3 morceaux. Déjà la fusion entre blues expérimental, power rock et ballade poppy se fait entendre…
Un des morceaux se retrouve fissa sur une compile et dès lors les propositions de concerts commencent à affluer, de la première partie de SUPERSUCKERS à celle de THE BLACK DIAMOND HEAVIES pour lesquelles ils embauchent à la basse leur vieil ami LUIS FRANSECO ARENA (guitariste/chanteur de feu HEADCASES, mais aussi folk singer ayant publié 2 albums chez Fiat Lux Recordings).
Les dates s’enchaînent et le buzz arrive vite aux oreilles du boss du label KICKING RECORDS qui leur offre une première figuration sur le split EP fêtant son 1er anniversaire, aux côtés de The BLACK ZOMBIE PROCESSION. Les chroniques qui suivent sont plus qu’enthousiastes, l’accueil du public itou et les dates continuent d’alimenter le compteur. Un morceau figurera de suite derrière sur la compile « La machine à tubes ».
Quand Mr. Cu ! les voit enfin sur scène, il leur propose sans ambages de concrétiser l’essai et d’enregistrer ce qui sera leur premier album à paraître en octobre 2008 sur KICKING RECORDS… 11 titres de Bluesy Pop Stoner 90’s épurés de tout complexe, que BILLY GAZ STATION présentera en tournée française et anglaise durant tout l’automne.
BILLY GAZ STATION is a brand new band formed by Billy the Kill (ex-bass player of SECOND RATE, LOST COWBOY HEROES, WATERGUNS and now guitar & singer under the name of BILLY THE KILL, his Folk project…) and Matgaz (drummer of HEADCASES and GLASNOST). The two guys know each other for about 10 years, but are living at some 600 km away : East side France for Billy and South West France for Matgaz. Besançon VS Jarnac !
June of 2006, after a phone call, they decide to find each other in Angoulême with the only goal to kick out heavy guitar riffs, drink down Bordeaux wine, and having a lot of fun… A day of rehearsal, and a day of recording are enough to put 3 songs on tape : an instrumental Blues, a Drop D Power Rock, and an Acoustic Folk ballade…
The feedback is pretty encouraging, and 2 months after one of those songs appears on a compilation released by a little french record label : RED PLANE Records.
Then, the Mars Attack (great rock’n roll club in Angoulême) ask them to be the support band for the SUPERSUCKERS on march ‘07. At this point the 2 swindlers start to work on a dozen of songs, to get an ass kicker set. Of course, a bass player is needed, and that’s PePe (Guitar player and singer in HEADCASES, and LUIS FRANCESO ARENA) who is named for that job... we’ll easily call him PePe Station. So 4 shows are booked in Western France on March, and the first of them as support of THE BLACK DIAMOND HEAVIES !
June 2007, Billy decides to move in Angoulême and a new 4 shows leg is booked. And a few days after a gig in Montpellier with THE HELLBATS, Nasty Samy (the bass player) ask them to appear on the other side of a split 7" with THE BLACK ZOMBIE PROCESSION, (his new horrific punk rock project) released by KICKING RECORDS.
So here's the first BILLY GAZ STATION release, and it's the chance for the band to record 5 songs. 2 of them will be on the 7" : A Drop D Hard Kickin' song (Friends & Destroy) and a Power Pop song (Accident Now!). A new version of "Different Fish" is recorded and will appear on "La Machine A tubes", a compilation featuring 20 french bands released by Puzzle Ramp.
November, BILLY GAZ is on tour with BLACK ZOMBIE PROCESSION for the split 7", and at the end of the tour Mr CU! the boss of KICKING RECORDS signed the band for releasing their first album on next October.
So now, the dudes are working hard into the rehearsal room, and the recording is planed at the end of June at La NEF in Angoulême... Before that the band will be touring softly in France (with some Swizerland gigs), waiting to really hit the road with the album into the hands...
Bon, les gars, comment vous remercier?? C'était une fois de plus énorme...et je n'attends qu'une chose, c'est qu'on se refasse ça!! Mat', je vois la chose avec Raf' lundi, pour la date, et il te contacte... Arf sinon, je suis trop bête, j'ai complètement oublié de te demander le HEADCASES et un vinyl "valide" de votre album, et pourtant on en a discuté à mon arrivée! Grr... Hello Mat, hello Billy! Merci une fois encore pour cette presta énorme hier soir à Beauvais! Trop bon de t'avoir revu, Mat', et quant à toi, Billy, génial d'avoir fait ta connaissance. Du coup, mon vinyl de SKINS AND LICKS FROM HELL tourne encore plus souvent sur ma platine, vais même le chroniquer tiens! RDV le 14 à Combles!

Bravo les gars pour votre concert à st Etienne, c'était énorme !! Assurer le set de deux formations c'est pas donné à tout le monde, encore bravo. Je vois que pour aujourd'hui (day off) vous trouvez même le moyen d'enregistrer !!! ça va plus les mecs ! gardez du jus, il vous reste pas mal de dates... alé salut les infatigables, bonne route et au plaisir de se recroiser...
