FREE KEY BIT CHESS have been forging their very own brand of Metal since 1995. Just as the term Rock ’n’ Roll has many facets, this Munich band draws from the different layers of the Metal genre, without fighting its established categorizations. The tuned ear may recognize influences from bands like Machine Head, Godsmack or Prong – but in the final assessment, what the boys do is simply make good hook-and-riff Metal that really kicks ass.
FREE KEY BIT CHESS – the name alone bears witness to the band's irony and creativity, even if you may have to say it a few times in rapid succession to get the point. And the name is just the start of their agenda – no cliché grinding, no fad following, just uncompromising openness and loyalty to their own style. Equipped with contemporary riffs, straight grooves and roots deep in "old school" Metal, the "Bitches(s)", as their fans know them, have crafted a sound that you just have to hear to enjoy – and they know how to carry that enjoyment over to their audiences at live gigs. In their eventful past FREE KEY BIT CHESS have shared the stage several times with the likes of Ektomorf, Farmer Boys, Legion Of The Damned, Tankard and Debauchery and proven that they need shy no comparison with their peers when it comes to professionalism and stage presence.
With their new album "KISS MY ASS" the Bitchess extend an invitation to all those with their noses up their own, so the lyrics are often spiced with irony. And they aren't afraid of doing it all in German either, with songs like "Deine Augen" (Your Eyes). But they don't preach, they merely decry what they consider to be wrong, intentionally leaving space for the listener's own interpretation. "KISS MY ASS" joins the best new arrangements of the band's past songs with its latest compositions. And in doing so, even the more familiar songs sound fresh, motivated and cutting edge in 2007.
