Free Key Bit Chess - Biography
As Steiff (vocals), Harry (drums) and Chris (bass) founded the band in Munich in 1995, the plan was to rock some foundations – and so the rocking began. Once they'd found a guitarist who fit, they picked out what each of them saw as the best bits from the entire breadth of the hard genre and the FREE KEY BIT CHESS sound was born. After some changes on the guitar, Mick joined in 2001, bringing with him the final consolidating ingredients for that sound. In December 2008, Hamid Shoja joined the band, when Chris decided to leave the band due to lack of time. Furthermore, we finally found a second guitarist with Axel Rasthofer in March 2009.
FREE KEY BIT CHESS – the name alone bears witness to the band's irony and creativity, even if you may have to say it a few times in rapid succession to get the point. And the name is just the start of their agenda – no cliché grinding, no fad following, just uncompromising openness and loyalty to their own style. Equipped with contemporary riffs, straight grooves and roots deep in "old school" Metal, the "Bitches(s)", as their fans know them, have crafted a sound that you just have to hear to enjoy – and they know how to carry that enjoyment over to their audiences at live gigs. In their eventful past FREE KEY BIT CHESS have shared the stage several times with the likes of Ektomorf, Farmer Boys, Legion Of The Damned, Tankard and Debauchery and proven that they need shy no comparison with their peers when it comes to professionalism and stage presence.
After many years in the metal underground and the two self-produced discs "Three Days In Space" and "…Raging", the band signed with the independent label Bad Land Records in 2007 and brought out their first official album "Kiss My Ass" on September 15, 2007. Less than a year later – in July 2008 – they followed it up with their new demo "demo-lition" that whets the fans' appetite for the next LP with four songs and a live video.

Ein amtliches Brett sollte es werden, als Steiff (Vocals), Harry (Drums) und Chris (Bass) die Band 1995 in München gründeten – und es wurde sehr amtlich. Nachdem ein passender Gitarrist gefun-den war, wurde aus den verschiedensten Einflüssen der Musiker aus sämtlichen Bereichen des harten Genres der Sound der FREE KEY BIT CHESS geboren. Nach einigen Wechseln an der Gitarre stieß 2001 schließlich Mick dazu und brachte dem Sound die entscheidenden Zutaten, so dass sich der Stil der Band endgültig festigte. Im Dezember 2008 stieg Hamid Shoja als neuer Bassist in die Band ein, da sich Chris aus Zeitgründen von der Band trennen musste. Außerdem wurde im März 2009 nach langer Suche endlich mit Axel Rasthofer ein zweiter Gitarrist verpflichtet.
FREE KEY BIT CHESS – schon der Name der Combo gibt Aufschluss über die Kreativität und die Ironie, die in ihr steckt. Oder sollte irgendwem die Wortspiel-Analogie zu „Freaky Bitches“ verborgen geblieben sein? Genau hier beginnt die Freiheit der Band – keine Klischeereiterei, keine Anpassung an Trends, sondern kompromisslose Offenheit, aber ihrem Stil stets treu bleibend. Ausgestattet mit zeitgemäßem Riffing und straighten Grooves, das Fundament jedoch im Metal der „alten Schule“ verwurzelt – so entsteht ein Sound, der einfach Spaß machen muss – und diesen wissen die Jungs bei ihren Live-Performances auf das Publikum zu übertragen. Die „Bitchen“, wie sie auch genannt werden, haben in ihrer bewegten Geschichte bereits einige Male die Bühne mit Größen wie Ektomorf, Farmer Boys, Legion Of The Damned, Tankard oder Debauchery geteilt und dabei bewiesen, dass sie in Professionalität und Bühnenpräsenz den Genannten in nichts nachstehen.
Nach vielen Jahren im harten Underground und den zwei Eigenproduktionen „Three Days In Space“ und „…Raging“ hat die Band 2007 einen Deal beim Indie-Label Bad Land Records unterschrieben und am 15.09.2007 ihr erstes offizielles Album „Kiss My Ass“ veröffentlicht. Weniger als ein Jahr später – im Juli 2008 – legte die Band ihr neues Demo „demo-lition“ nach, auf dem vier neue Songs und ein Live-Video einen Vorgeschmack auf ihren nächsten Longplayer geben.
