"Smashing, You Are What You Hear is the go-to release for fresh, engaging minimal electronic grooves" - Jim Caroll - The Ticket, The Irish Times, Phantom Fm
"You Are What You Hear explores all that is fresh in electronica at the moment, borrowing elements of glitch, minimal and dubstep and compounding them together in a way that's uniquely respectful and progressive.... For a debut release on a brand new label, it makes a great statement of intent from the outset" - Crude Magazine
"An accomplished release, all the more so, when you consider that it's a début. Quality control is sky high on all tracks. To say that I'm mightily impressed would be an understatement. Oi world, this is Limerick!" - Cian O'Ciobháin - RTE Radio Na Gaeltachta, An Taobh Tuathail, Sisi, 110th Street
DROP-D.IE - REVIEW:
"Kevin Blake is a man who's played in experimental rock bands since he was 15 and Electric Underground's live resident has released a six-track debut gem, an EP called You Are What You Hear. The EP opens with an eerily catchy Holy Smoke as Blake's experimental influences take hold as the song moves with snare fills and synth bass riffs with minimalist sensibilities.
The EP moves subtly along Blake's creativity as it goes into It's The Rain which glitches vocal samples over slow tempo synths like rain beating against a window pane before a thumping bass drum brings the track along towards the climax it never reaches. Adventures In Subspace is exactly that, the track moves along progressive layers of minimalist techno synths and samples
This finely crafted debut certainly raises the bar for electronic music in Ireland as Blake and Electric Underground make a firm statement about quality of Irish electronica"
Kevin Blake has been making electronic music for almost three years now. Up until then he used to produce rock music on four track tape machines and computer programs. The change to electronica came from an explosion of inspiration from artists on labels such as Warp Records and Planet Mu. Artists such as Aphex Twin, Autechre and Boards of Canada inspired him to mold his own take on this, but with more of a classical and post-rock influence.
From being in bands since a young age, the entire live aspect is quintessential to Kevin's development as a producer. Various pieces of musical equipment including guitars, percussion, samplers, synths, a melodica and a laptop are used at each show, making each gig a memorable one. He has had the pleasure of playing and touring with such fantastic acts as Bonobo, Mu-ziq, 65 Days Of Static, Max Tundra,Marco Bernardi, Luke Vibert and Donal Dineen. Kevin also played live this year at Ireland's finest Electric Picnic Festival.
Kevin has also worked with the Cork Pops Orchestra and with them he has done three concerts to date showcasing an original composition of his. This can be seen on your left or on youtube. He also runs the Electric Underground club night and label in Cork which serves as a platform for Irish live electronic acts and innovative djs, as well as guest artists from abroad. Recent guests have included artists from the most prestigious electronica labels such as Warp, Planet Mu and Ninjatune.
His debut release 'You Are What You Hear' was released on the 13th of March on his own Electric Underground label. It is currently being distributed through RMG and should be available in all good record shops around the country, or digitally.Tracks from it have been heavily played radio shows like Cian O'Ciobháin's Taobh Tuathail on RTE Radio Na Gaeltachta, and Donal Dineen's Small Hours on Today Fm. He can also be seen still playing rock music in the band 'Private Underground Residence'.

"Ireland's sexiest laptopper lands his latest mini-album on Cock Rock Disco! "Not figuratively, but literally in love with Music..." is a rave inspired experimental break-acid-core thrill ride of endless ideas and possibilities. Herv packs a lot into the 8 tracks; melodies evolve and twist, beats fracture and congeal and synths collide! It's exciting! But that's not all, it comes with 2 cd designs and a freakin A0 sized poster! Whoa! Can't beat the value in that!"
