Bobby Stern
Born to a musical family, (which includes sister, singer Jennifer Rush) and raised in New York, Bobby was constantly surrounded by all types of music, but it was not until his late teens after attending the High School of Music and Art in NYC and beginning saxophone studies with noted teacher Joe Allard, that he considered music as a vocation.
By that time he had moved with his family to Germany. There, he eventually received his first recording contract, which led to the formation of the group "Head, Heart & Hands", an Afro Caribbean Jazz ensemble which became quite popular; appearing throughout much of Europe. Noted German jazz journalist, the late Joachim E. Behrendt, said of a young Bobby Stern, "....he has the bite and aggressivity of the best soloists in jazz....".
Bobby has subsequently performed and recorded internationally with many major jazz and pop artists, among them Marvin Gaye, Thad Jones, Joe Perry, Tete Montoliou, Jennifer Rush, Stevie Woods to name only a few, as well as with a number of his own fine groups.
In recent years, he has spent his time between Europe & the U.S. and has recently authored “The Melodic Minor Handbook: A Jazz Player’s Perspective” published and distributed by Jamey Aebersold Jazz (www.jazzbooks.com).
Bobby Stern is a worldwide endorser for Keilwerth Saxophones as well as Bari Reeds & Mouthpieces.
