BOOLUMBAL "L’oiseau du fleuve". Le Boolumbal est perçu comme un oiseau de bon augure dans l’imaginaire collectif des peuples de la vallée du fleuve Sénégal.
Malick Dia, originaire de Kaédi en Mauritanie, est chanteur-guitariste du groupe Boolumbal. Après une 1ère expérience musicale en Afrique dans les années 90’s (sortie d’une K7 « Caali Mbayla » à Dakar en 1995, plusieurs tournées en Afrique de l’Ouest, collaboration avec Mamadou Konté), Malick Dia quitte sa Mauritanie natale et débarque à Paris en 2002.
Nicolas Lebault est un musicien français, qui depuis plus de 20 années étudie le Blues à travers ses différentes époques, de Blind Lemon Jefferson aux Allman Brothers, de Robert Johnson à Canned Heat. Cette passion pour le Blues le conduit à s’intéresser aux racines africaines de cette musique ; "les 1ers esclaves affranchis du Mississipi, qui allaient de ferme en ferme chanter leurs field-hollers, sont les descendants directs des griots africains". De là est né le désir de travailler avec des musiciens africains.
De cette rencontre est né l'album Fuuta Blues. De nombreux artistes participèrent aux enregistrements, parmi lesquels Baba Galle Kanté (Sekouba Bambino, Mory kanté), Makan Tounkara (Salif Keita), Yohan Rochetta (La Palinka), Mohammed Cissoko (Mamady Keita, Orchestre National de Guinée), Jerry Lipkins (Tom Novembre, Trilok Gurtu), Mamané Thiam (Fallou Dieng, Cheickh Lo), Awa Camara (Baaba Maal), René Sopa, Nicolas Chelly, ...
Les textes d’Abdoul Aziz Ba, auteur et poète mauritanien, sont principalement écrits en langue Peule. Ils décrivent la vie des Peuls qui habitent en bordure du fleuve Sénégal, en frontière de la Mauritanie et du Mali.

BOOLUMBAL "Bird of the river". The Boolumbal is seen as a good luck bird in the shared belief of the people from the Valley of the Senegal river.
Malick Dia, a native of Kaedi in Mauritania, is singer-guitarist of the group Boolumbal. After his first musical experience in Africa in the 90s., (recording of an Audio tape "Caali Mbayla" in Dakar in 1995, touring several times in West Africa and collaborating with Mamadou Konte), Malick Dia leaves his homeland Mauritania and lands in Paris in 2002.
Nicolas Lebault is a French musician, who, for more than 20 years has studied the Blues throughout the times, from Blind Lemon Jefferson to the Allman Brothers, Robert Johnson to Canned Heat. His passion for the Blues drove him to the roots of the African music. "The first emancipated slaves of Mississippi, who were going from farm to farm singing the field-hollers, are the direct descendents of the African griots". From his studies was born the desire to work with African musicians.

Fuuta Blues is an album defined by rhythms and poetry, admirably served by the arrangements and virtuosity of the musicians. The instruments interact with obvious simplicity throughout the songs. Accordion, violin, guitars, balafon, kora, peul flute, bass, keyboards, drums, guembri, nianiorou, houdou, ngoni, djembes, tama all come together surprisingly and successfully.
The texts of Abdoul Aziz Ba, Mauritian author and poet, are mainly written in the Peule language. They portray the life of the Peule people who live next to the Senegal river, and are bordered by Mauritania and Mali.
"I will pierce the belly of the world, I will go through deep forests. And I will lay at your blessed feet. And the hearth, and the firewood, bringing thus some warmth, spark, color of happiness, And the flame which will light up your heart for a long time...".
The album Fuuta Blues brings us back to the ties of the ancient filiations linking the traditional music of West Africa to the Blues, the folk and the jazz. It offers an unbelievable palette of colors and sounds, always favoring a music who is drawing its authenticity from the sub-saharan african traditions.
