BOOTLEG was formed in the summer of 1989 by drummer Marcel Vermaning,
guitarist Gerrit van Berkum, bassplayer Gerald Batterink and
singer/songwriter Rob Dokter. Right from the start BOOTLEG stood out from
the rest of the bands in the hometown area of Zwolle.
Playing various styles of rock and country, arranging all tunes to be their
own. Always playing from the heart, which they still do in the newest line-up. It's rock, country and bluesy music from the heart. Some of the earliest
songs included John Hiatt, CCR, Lou Reed, Steve Miller, James McMurtry, Carl
Perkins, Stevie Ray Vaughan, JJ Cale and of course lots of own originals.
Some of songs are still in the set from the very first gig: like James
McMurtry's "Outskirts", and John Hiatt's "Georgia Rae" and "Slow turning".
As the years passed the amount of ownpenned originals grew and grew and with
the coming of guitarist/songwriter Dick Zoeteweij, referred to by Rob as "Dicky"- Dick
in 1993 the sound spread even more, but is always within the BOOTLEG idiom
of Rock, country and bluesy style.
The last four years has seen BOOTLEG in its current line-up with Dick and
Rob still there along with
Bart Faber on drums and Kees van Hardeveld on bassguitar. Together they
really kick ass!
And UPDATE: Since 2009 Bootleg is becoming a family affair !! Tom Dokter on guitars too
Guitarist Dick has made him some fine tunes on CD and Rob has put out 2
solo-CD's so far.
While touring France anually with Panama Red and the French-based band
Mary-Lou he's been referred to ever since as "The Doc". His song "Expat Blues"
has been covered in the USA by both Ronny Elliott and the Nationals on their
CD "HEP" and Panama Red on his CD "Choice Buds".
This year they will celibrate their 20th Anniversary! BOOTLEG!! Still
rocking!

Hope you are having a good new year so far! I wanted to let you know that i'm coming to play the Netherlands next week. I'm doing two shows.......Leiden at Qbus on Thurs, Jan. 24th....and Ospel on Friday, Jan. 25th at Cafe De Prins.
Al Perkins will be in tow.......as well as a band from LA called Shurman......i thought you might enjoy that!
