Sounds Like
Funky and Rockin fishbone Esc, not ska(with lots of upbeats) with Tower of Power horns lines. Chilli pepperish, with bad ass horns?
Equal parts precision musicianship and roaming funk party, above all, Bop Skizzum is a family. A vibrant, organic, ever changing, Denver based cast of captivating musicians proving that great funk music rocks, and great rock music is supremely funky. But whats with the name? Founder and front man Andy Guerrero attributes the ear-catching, percussive nonsense to Bill Cosby-speak, as in bop skizzum, flippin flazzum, and the pudding pop. Its memorable, but cant quite be associated with any one genre of music. Which is perfect, because Bop Skizzum just wont commit; integrating energetic and soulful sounds of Jazz, Rock, Funk, Hip-Hop, Punk, and whatever else pops into their heads, into a seamless, mesmerizing feast for the eyes and ears.
Youve seen them opening repeatedly for Fishbone, G. Love and Special Sauce, Flogging Molly, Long Beach Dub All Stars, and as the only local Denver band to open for George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic in recent history. Nominated twice as Best Funk/Soul/Groove band by Denvers Westword Magazine, Skiz has rocked the Ernie Ball Battle Of The Bands stage at the 2004 Vans Warped Tour, as well as legendary local stages like the Bluebird, Gothic, Ogden and Fox Theater. Andy has even been tapped by The Recording Academy (Grammys) to join artists Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson and Earth, Wind & Fire on the Whats The Download Interactive Advisory Board; serving as an ambassador for what young people want from music in todays digital world.
Comprised of concert promoters, touring Jazz geniuses, and high school music teachers, Bop Skizzum is Andy Guerrero (lead vocals/guitar,) Serafin Sanchez (tenor saxophone/keyboards/vocals,) Joe Ferrone- (trumpet/vocals,) Jeff Valentine (trombone,) Chris Harris (bass guitar,) Tohbias Juniel (drums,) and The Simonica - Simone Brackett and Monica Conway (vocals.) Their new EP, Propeller, was recorded at Coupe Studios in Boulder with engineer Greg Mcrae, (The swayback, Rosehill Drive) and produced by Legendary Front Man Mike Friesen (Psychodelic Zombiez) guiding the menagerie of eclectic sounds into a sweet & funky package of pop tunes sure to make your booty shake in your bucket seats.
Devout in their faith of the unifying power of music, Bop Skizzum has launched a new, fully interactive website and continues to capture hundreds of fans on MySpace, while proving to the music industry that FUNK is not a four letter word.

I saw you guys on the schedule to play at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival, and I tried to sneak my way into a break later on than I usually am allowed to from work... they wouldn't allow me. It's weird. It was only across the street from us(The stage you were on) and we couldn't hear a bit of it from my work. Hope you guys rocked it out there. XD
