Brad Miller
A real country singer on a mission
That Brad Miller is an honest-to-goodness Country-with-a-capital-C singer is evident when he opens his mouth to sing. Consider First Time Outta the Chute, which at this point in his young but promising career would have to be considered his signature song. Fueled by Texas-style fiddle, the spirited tune jumps out of the speakers like a bucking bronco. It would sound perfectly at home on a George Strait album but Miller makes it his own, nailing the clever rodeo-as-metaphor lyric in a rich South Carolina baritone.
That Brad Miller is on a mission is evident from the moment he starts talking about his life where he came from, where hes been, where he is now and where he is headed. I have always had a gift to sing, Brad says. I am anointed to sing. My greatest strength is the Lord. That strength has sustained him through difficult times and given him faith as he pursues a career in a notoriously tough business that is not often equated with godliness.
Brad, a Union, S.C., native who moved frequently as a child because of his fathers job as a mill worker, has also lived in Mississippi, Virginia and North Carolina. Music always came naturally to him, and he was singing in church at an early age. At 17, while living in Greenville, Miss., he met and took guitar lessons from a young Steve Azar, well before Azar became known for hits such as I Dont Have To Be Me (Til Monday). Brad started singing in clubs at age 21, developed a magnetic stage presence and was advised that he should move to Music City. In 1999, he did so, chasing his dream there for two years before finances forced him to leave. I never thought I would ever see Nashville again, he says now. I just gave up on ever being a country singer.
But the Lord intervened. On Dec. 2, 2003, Brad Miller accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. That landmark experience changed his lifestyle. It also revealed to him his divine calling which was to use his God-given skills as a singer, songwriter and communicator to reach other people. Nowadays, he chooses to do primarily positive songs both secular and overtly Christian. I dont want any drinking songs or divorce songs, says Brad, who previously put out a gospel album that was released on the independent Lost Gold Records and made available for download through WalMart.com. (A side note: Brad does continue to perform First Time Outta the Chute which was recorded before he was born again to show people where he was and where he is now. He elaborates: Its not merely about going to a bar. Its about what I went through and others go through. Just because you do not succeed the first time it does not mean you are a failure; it just means you are learning from your mistakes.)
Influenced by the likes of Strait, Clint Black and Clay Walker, Brad Miller draws peoples attention with his voice, and he keeps their attention with his down-home sincerity and warmth. He, wife Amy and their three children (the couple plan to adopt more) live just north of Nashville in Hendersonville, Tenn. Brads long-range goals include becoming a bishop in the ministry and owning a record company. I would like to have longevity in the music business, he says. Asked how he'd like to be remembered, Brad says: That I loved the Lord with all my heart and that I loved my neighbor as myself. I sing for Him.

Deuteronomy 8:2,3,17,18 2. Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. 3. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. 17. You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me." 18. But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.

Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Todays Pray Lord, thank You for saving me. The parts I don't like about myself I give them to You. Would You shape and mold them into something beautiful? Help me to trust in Your wonderful plan for my life. Give me hope when I feel discouraged. Give me a passion for Your Word and Your purpose. I want to be faithful and run the race with all that You have given me. Amen.
2 Corinthians 12:10 That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Todays Pray Lord, search me and know me. Wash away all my iniquities. Holy Spirit, come and fill me up with Your presence. I desire clean lips, clean hands, and a clean heart, Lord as I labor in Your love. Your discipline is life-giving because You give life to those who heed Your instruction and correction. Thank You, Father for Your loving discipline, Amen.
Romans 5:3~5 Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
Todays Pray Lord, You are the God of mercy. We can only ask for Your grace. We are utterly speechless at our weakness because we always fall back to sin. We want to stay close to You. We want to be restored to Your presence. Help us to resist evil and follow the truth. In Jesus' name, Amen.
1 Peter 5:8~10 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
Jesus loves you and we love you too. Have a great weekend!

I saw this story and it reminded me of a similar situation with my youngins.
Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said, "God is good. God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if Mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen!"
Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby I heard a woman remark, "That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know how to pray. Asking God for ice-cream! Why, I never!"
Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?" As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table.
He winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer. " "Really?" my son asked. "Cross my heart," the man replied. Then in a theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), "Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes."
Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my life. He picked up his sundae and without a word, walked over and placed it in front of the woman;
With a big smile he told her, "Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes; and my soul is good already."
