Since 1995, Ashley Spencer and David Richards have survived the creation and destruction of many bands of varying style, seriousness, duration, and members. The first incarnation of brains (repeat) was an intense and thrilling, however short lived experience for all involved, experimenting with purely instrumental and entirely uncatagorisable music, often written based on the results of long, cathartic, bi-polar improv jams. Originality, zombies, and a communal disliking of much was the driving force behind this quartet.
2005 saw the departure of Shane Lieber and Trent Menassa from brains (repeat) to focus on their own respective projects, being the maniacal powerhouse of An Easier Question, and the electro-acoustic Arabian funk pop of Lan Party.
Ashley and David continued jams, writing and recording as a duo that changed its name by the hour.
Early 2006 saw the welcome introduction of Adrian McGough, injecting piano/organ/keys into the mix, contributing to a refreshingly full sound and newer broader horizons in original song writing. The band, ever balls deep in writing/recording sessions currently continue to slave over a hot 24 track in order to develop sounds that are undoubtedly their own. Taking the time to work on unique tune details and arrangements is what these guys live for…they think it's even cooler than a cluster bomb wiping out a graveyard full of zombies!
In this way, brains repeat stagger on undeterred by the figurative rotting limbs and rigor mortis of life.
The only thing that'll stop them is a bullet in the head (and if you hate them that much,…geez, chill out).
******************If you like the music of brains repeat, can sing, play some sort of stringed, keyed, or horned instrument (or combination thereof…?) live on/near the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria Australia (or are willing to travel), and can contribute something unique/cool/interesting musically, we'd love to hear from you. We're looking for people to both play AND write music with – our musical Voltron is a few robot lions with human pilots short.
So if any of this pushes your interest button, send us a message!******************
In early 2007 brains repeat agreed to produce a made-to-order one-off...(that's right kids, no more punk pop shall ooze from these here brains!)...punchy punk pop tune for a miniature zombie epic film entitled Z3D5, being made by our ally in independent creation Daniel Armstrong of Strongman Pictures. In turn, the good folks at Strongman Pictures kindly covered us in corpsey goo and made a nice little video clip (below) for that tune, entitled 'Zombie Trousers'. So, give it a gander and lend your support to Strongman Pictures projects!
